1Biggun was working on something similar concept of an upside down receiver about 15 years ago or so in order to keep the optics rail firmly attached to the trunnion and barrel. Don't think he ever finished it though. Not a big fan of left sided charging handles, but not a deal breaker either.
Allot of these improvements to the AK just make it more prone to problems IMHO. I think the designers of the FNC and SIG got carried away making their rifles more sophisticated instead of not messing with what works. The Finns and Israelis stayed close to the original design with the Valmet/SAKO and Galil to have reliable rifles. I like the KISS principle, keep it simple stupid, yukedy, yuk!
The Midwest Industries Alpha Series is still pretty true to the orininal design, but I can do without some of that crap they stuck on it.
