Well, I started my AMD-63 build today. Got as far as I could but I want to measure the rear lower swell-neck rivets (which I don't have yet) before I drill the holes. I'm using the worst of four ACE bent receivers I bought just to see how it will turn out. This sure isn't like using a finished receiver from OOW.

Before I drill the lower swell-neck rivet holes, I'm going to do the mag dimple thing, just need a big magnet to hold all the jigs in place.

Yes, the bends weren't quite right so when you install the front trunnion you have a bow, hell you don't even have to have the trunnion istalled to see the bow. The receiver width measured around 1.267" - 1.270", which is .010" on each side to much. I'm hoping that once the rivets are installed I will be able to smooth it out a little. Since I can't center the trunnion in the receiver, I have to rivet one side then the other so I'll have about .020" to pull in. .020" doesn't sound like to much but I'd rather not have to deal with something like this. However, like I said, It will be good practice.

When I clamp everything together it doesn't look to bad but when I know about something that's wrong it kinda bugs me. Hoping that the tolerences on an AK are sloppy enough that this won't matter.

TK,

Now that you point it out, my first receiver has similar "bows". However, I didn't have much trouble with them, because I would squeeze the walls together and use clamps to pull them in while I was fitting the trunnions. In fact, when I riveted the front in, there are a couple of places where when I set them it dented in the wall a bit more than what I would consider normal. I would think that this has a lot to do with the fact that it was out a bit too far, and then I pushed it back the other way which would cause the deformation/bending in of the area around the rivet. Like I said, it isn't horrible and hardly noticeable. Maybe, like your's, there are a few that get out that aren't "pefect". Guess its a nice one to start on, though!!
