I took the plunge and picked up one of the AMD65 kit sets that Tapco had on sale for independence day. I've got several questions about the kit that maybe some of you can help with.

1) Does it come with a full auto fire control set? I want to get rid of the stuff I'll never be able to use and will just cause me a headace, but I don't see any of the "extra" parts. Do they send them with the set or do I not need to worry

2) Related to one, I got the set that was to include a G2 fcg. I got that, I got another fcg (not U.S.) in a bag of parts and I got ANOTHER fcg in baggie sealed without any other parts (looks used though) in the magazine pouch that came with it. Any ideas of what the three different sets are? Is one a full auto fcg (which I will throw away) another a semi-auto foreign and the third is clearly a U.S. made set that I will use.

3) Any body have detailed picture of a full auto group so I can toss the stuff I don't need?

4)Anybody have a diagram of how the folding stock goes together?

5) The cleaning rod is damaged (no threads, all broken off), is this something I should expect from these kits from Tapco?

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the stock information

Do you guys have comments on the Fire control groups? I got three with the kit, one is a U.S. kit and the other two look to me to be the same, but I don't know. Again, I don't know what the full auto "extras" are or even if it came with them, so I'm a bit concerned. I am going to throw them in the trash but I don't know what "they" are.

So if anybody has some exploded diagrams or parts pictures I'd love to see them.

At the tapco site http://www.tapco.com/product_information.asp?number=AK0660&back=yes&dept=189&last=13 it says the full auto fcg's were replaced with a foreign semiauto fcg so that anyone could buy the kit.

This is because Washington state (and maybe others - not sure) doesn't allow full auto parts. Maybe you got lucky and got two of the foreign made fcg's. Sometimes people will buy them for projects - so you could list them for sale or trade, or you could use them to experiment with (like trying to make a two stage setup or whatever you want to experiment with). That way if the parts get messed up then you're not really out anything (other than time experimenting)

The firing pins on the AMD kits - from what i have seen are free floating. The only ones I have seen with the spring loaded firing pin are some of the chinese AKs and some of the bulgarian Aks. If there are other countries tha tuse a spring loaded firing pin I am not aware of it (though there may be some - just not sure).

Just got my AMD-65 kit from TAPCO last night. If you look at the original trigger you can see where it was cut down to modify it for semi-auto. The auto sear http://www.k-var.com/images/AK-005.jpg, retarder: http://www.k-var.com/images/AK-070B.jpg and spring: http://www.k-var.com/images/AK-006.jpg are very distinctive looking. If they don't specify a semi-auto FCG or say they have the full auto FCG, I call to verify or to see if they will pull parts. I know people near the Oregon boarder who have kits shipped to an Oregon address and remove the full auto parts before bringing them into the state.

My late two bits.
