Hello, new to these boards. I did a search for this and didnt come up with any results but Im sure somewhere it has been discused before... ? is, Are the AMDs parkerized prior to painting and if so whats the best method ,if any, to remove the paint without damageing the park. Ive tried soaking a few test parts in acitone for a few hours with no results. didnt affect the paint at all. Seems like this stuff is an epoxy based baked on job. Thanks

That paint is TOUGH... the paint on the handguard, though, is crap. I stripped the handguard, then went over my kit with 400 grit auto sandpaper & gunkoted right over the original. It is solid as a rock.

Hey guys. I found something that gets the paint off. The cheap .99 oven cleaner at Wal Mart. I put the parts in a bucket and sprayed it all down real good and left it overnight. It took a little scrubing with a small brass wire brush and it all came off. My AMD is bare metal under the paint. Its not parked.

I dont care much for the painted look. Im about to invest in my own parkerizing outfit and Ive got four other guns not including my AK projects that Im going to park. I may in the very near future be wanting to rent your bending jig. Im going to stock up on some flats first though. But looking at the AMD closer after I took off all the paint I think its been zinc parkerized before it was painted.

I would love to be setup for parking guns. Hotbarrel has a pretty nice setup for parkerizing too. Just let me know about the jig. Right now there really isn't a huge interest in renting it, which isn't that big of a deal to me. I will hold on to it and use it when I need it. I've got 6 flats coming in this week from the group buy. That should keep me going for a while. It is pretty amazing how fast you can bend a flat with the jig.
