Had a bad week this week due to some health issues.

Thursday last week I started getting a lump in my abdomen. By Friday it was very swollen and I needed to go to see a doc. It being Friday at 6 PM we went to the ER. My buddy who had a triple hernia thought I might want to go right away as my pain was getting worse by the minute.

In the ER the 1st year resident decides it's a hernia and tries to push it back in 4 separate times. He had me on 2 shots of Morphine, 1 of Versed, 1 of Toradal. I was leaping up off the table each time and then he called in a surgeon who exclaimed it wasn't a hernia, but an infected cyst under the skin that had grown to the size of a Polish sausage.

They sent me home with anti-bodies, but the next day due to the damn thing being pushed on it ruptured and spread infection. My leg, scrotum, and gut started turning red rapidly and I felt really bad. Called my Doc and tell him what happened. He says get to the hospital fast! (Saturday night)

In the ER of a different better hospital they tell me I had 4-6 hours before I could have had life threatening issues.

They start pumping anti-bodies in me by the liter (literally) and admit me to a room. On the 3rd course of anti-bodies I have a reaction. I knew this could happen because I react to lots of meds badly.

The nurse had just left the room after hooking me up and giving me another shot of morphine. I started to drift off to sleep due to it being 3 AM by this time. Something dark comes over my vision as if something was in the room with me. (I know it sounds weird and I was drugged) Then a little voice in my head tells me to hit the call button or I'm going to die.

By the time I reached for the call button I couldn't talk straight. My chest was tight and my heart rate went well past the redline. My muscles started contracting and teeth chattering. My whole life flashed before my eyes and I saw my little girl sad without a father at my funeral. It was truly the scariest thing I've experienced. My heart hit 190 by the time they hooked my up to the monitor and I'm no athelete!

Luckily that voice worked and the nurses came in to take care of me. A shot of Benadryl and some other stuff brought me out of it. A tearful call to my wife brought her back to the hospital at 3:30 AM scared out of her mind to her blubbering husband.

After a couple of days on the anti-bodies they cut open my gut and drained the area. I went home on Wednesday then had to go back to the doc today for drug reaction issues again. My system is too tender for it's own good on this stuff.

So.... I feel like crap and haven't been to work all week. Came home to find out someone had cancled my DSL service along with changing my ISP password again. My ISP was scratching their head again and I am on dial-up doing this post. My DSL company says my account was deleted and will take several days to put back.

What a week!

Oh.... I forgot to mention Monday was my 35th birthday. What a time I had on my Birthday!

Cephus,

I got a 1 inch open hole in my groin for drainage that I put gauze over twice a day and antibiotic cream. I'm feeling so damn sick at the moment it's not even funny! The nausea is a real biotch and it doesn't stop. I think I know what it feels like to be a cancer patient now.

I'm actually considering legal action against the first hospital now that I've found out the nickname. "The Killing Hospital" All my nurses and Doctors at the other place had some nickname that included death or kill for the place. It's 2 minutes from my house as oppased to a 20 minute drive. Never again!

Sang,

Man, That's some scary shizit.
I am glad to hear that glad that things turned out alright.

They say the Lord works in mysterious ways, I don't know, but whatever it was that prompted you to hit that button, I'm glad it did.

They started pushing in the "hernia" H.S.!! I bet that was very very painful. Not to mention that it wasn't a hernia, but a cyst. I'm glad to hear that you are doing a little better although not feeling well. .

762, I agree the Lord does work in mysterious ways. Thank god SH is still here and alive typing his posts vis dial up modem. :)

Sorry to hear of your medical emergency. Custer mentioned it elsewhere; I'm stopping by to wish you well and a speedy recovery.

Also, best of luck with the house sale. Consider: The bit with the drug dealers moving in and the BS at work is happening "on purpose" to get you to relocate for a reason. "Morganhole" (I'm a former local from those parts as you recall) is not a bad place, and it's close to "home" for you, Sang Run being where it is.

Go with the flow.

Best wishes,

Noah

I'm halfway to 100 and all about sharing around the experience and knowledge at this point. As such I post at a number of boards, and no one's had a problem with it so far. Problem is, not enough time to visit all the boards that I'd like to. I haven't been to Battlerifles in a couple months, for example.

Again, best wishes for a swift recovery.

Sang Run, sorry to hear of your misfortune! Man, it sounds pretty serious, I hope all goes well with the recovery aspect. I've had quite a week myself but that's another thread in itself.

(had to re-register because I must have used an odd password. 'puter went completely down awhile back and had to reformat, not sure which e-mail addy I registered with initially but Hotmail didn't recognize the two I was using)

Again, best wishes with your recovery!

I hope you get well soon. My wife works in an ER in Cincinnati and she knows who the the Doctors are, if we need to go to the Hospital she calls and finds out who is working first. I hope every thing turns out for you. Man, sounds like you are having a run of bad luck.

St. Francis St. George used to have a good reputation but I am not sure it was warranted. More like a west side tradition.

I have no respect or trust in the Mercy Health system. The Good Sisters of Mercy seem more interested in their gigantic work out centers and liberal social work than in running a good hospital.
