Maybe some of you who shoot 7.62x39 (possibly all of you out there) can help shed some light on some of the deals and results of some specific brand ammo out there for people like me, who are sort of new to the caliber???
which ones are :bull: ???
which ones are :woo: ???
sites with the best deals going (shipping might be a concern).
I find this thread could be useful to many, and thanx in advance for your input!!! :notworthy

P.S.
Sorry, guys... had a HUGE pic of my sks here, and had no idea it was that large... had to delete it cause it took too long to load (1.18MEG) :scared:
I'll try to shrink it...

Silver Bear match grade has made me very happy! AIM has it for $85 per 1000. There is regular Silver Bear for cheaper, but I haven't tried it yet.

For hunting rounds I buy UMC from Wally world.

For AK's and SKS's I will buy pretty much on price. It all works and Wolf seems to be the best price.

I'm a lot more choosy on other pistols and rifles.

Still in a quandry about what to get for my Mosins. From what I have read, the Czech ammo sounds like it is often a problem.

I've never bought ammo from Cabelas.

Can't explain why I don't think of them as an ammo source since I buy other gear from them.

Guess I ought to start paying attention.

for my all around shooting I usualy end up with Barnaul. the stuff in the blue box. I feel all the Russin stuff is pretty much the same. Yes pretty much the same. Any of the Russin stuff is plenty good enough for fun. lets face it, if it cost $13.00 for 20 rounds the fun is allready over. HOWEVER $7.50 for 100 rounds means I can bump out a drum with a big smile.
I do agree more costly ammo may have it's place in a match or for a smaller target, say chipmunk HAHA. I have never shot a deer with wolf soft point or their hollow point to compaire it with a U.S. brand. HOWEVER 9 out of 10 deer survayed can not tell the differance a moment after inpact:deadhorse
if you practise with one brand round enough to put it ware you want it that will do more for you than a brand name.
I think 762X54R has the best of both with the silver bear match grade.
JUST my 2 cent worth but evryone has an opinion

Aim has item #A762x39Russ which is Ulyanovsk for $69.95/1000. I think it is the same stuff Century was selling for the same price. It is 124 gr. Hollow Point and packaged in 20 round boxes marked Sapsan. On 16th of Feb I shot some and it has good accuracy and no fail to fire or fail to ejects, etc. It is about the best price I know of right now. Century if they still have it might be cheaper than AIM for shipping (at least if you buy quantity). Wolf is good for plinking and I loved the yugo stuff that aim used to sell (gotta keep myself from using what I have left, lol). The silver bear is decent ammo, but for price the uly is the best deal going right now. :)

I just bought a case of the new HP Wolf with the gray cases and I have to say I am not happy with it. It seens that it is not consistant in power. I only shot 300 rounds and I had 3 failures to fully eject. One round would be hotter and some not so powerful.

I think I will try the Silver Bear Match next time.

Sellier & Bellot 7.62x39 has extraction problems in Romanian SAR-1's.

I tried three different rifles with three different lots of S & B ammo, and each rifle had at least two or three failures to extract out of about 100 rounds each.

I picked up a case of Golden Tiger when I bought my Yugo SKS. So far this stuff has been extremely accurate. Certianly beats wolf.

Considering I am usually plinking at 100 yards or in, Wolf is plenty accurate enough for me and I like the price.

Did you get it from Frank? I think that is the guy I have been buying it from at the show in Manchester. It is the best 7.62X39 ammo I have ever shot and I have shot many.

I've done 1000rnds of wolf in my ak and sks, its very dirty. Golden tiger and brown/gold bear are my top choices. Sapsan hp is also a very nice brand.

I'd pay an extra $5 to get something other then wolf.
