I'm looking to put a tactical scope on my Savage 10FP-LE1 and 10FP-LE2.

I'm looking to spend between $500 and $1,000 per scope (this is not an absolute limit).

Gotta Haves:

Mil-Dot Reticle
Target Turrets
Zoom Magnification (Approx. 3 to 10, but again, this is not hard and fast)
Matte black finish

Prefer:

Side focus adjustment
To not have to use super high rings due to a huge objective bell

Don't care:

If it's 30mm or 1 inch diameter
If it has an illuminated reticle or not

What I'm looking for most of all is good quality. PLEASE report your problems with various brands, or tell me how satisfied you are with various brands. Thanks.

probably anything from leupold, swarovski, or zeiss. of the three, leupold would be more affordable, but the german brands are more known for thier superb quality optics and construction.
(from midwayUSA)... check it out
leupold - http://www.midwayusa.com/rewriteaproduct/301359
zeiss - http://www.midwayusa.com/rewriteaproduct/455022
swarovski - http://www.midwayusa.com/rewriteaproduct/267834

these are just a few examples from midway... huge selection...
my favorite would probably be the swarovski, but I'm not sure if they offer the mil-dot reticle. The one shown in the link provided is pretty sweet to me, though:thumbup1:

Another thing has surfaced: I can't see fine cross-hairs and reticle markings!

I visited a gun shop this weekend and looked through several scopes. I almost couldn't even see the markings on a Springfield Armory lense, and several other brands were almost as bad. A Nikon "Buckmaster" had a nice, generous reticle, but I kind of doubt its overall quality at $400.00.

It looks like my search has only just begun...
