Hey Guy's whats going on I just needed some rivet info on how many it takes and what sizes of rivets to use. Also what is the best place to order rivets from I was curious because I heard the Tapco rivets are sometimes too small does anyone know of any other places to order rivets besides the Tapco, Joeken and Kvar I mean maybe like places that specialize in fasteners. I was going to try to weld one of my builds but I am hearing of to many bad experiances to doing so I once saw a picture of a poorly welded AK that pretty much exploded. I am a very good welder but just don't trus the MIG too much. Thanx Agian guys for all the info and to pookie for the PRICELESS info hes given not just me but everyone thanx again.:thankyou:

Hello,
I buy my rivits from Global Trades. They are the correct rivits for a build. You need 6- swell neck rivits for the front trunion, 5 standard short rivits for the trigger guard, 2 long rivits for the rear trunion. That is the amount you need for a standard build with a wood or plastic butt stock. The folders require different amount for the rear trunion.

The type of rivets greatly depends on just what your building.

My AMD-63 build used 2 standard swell neck rivets and 4 standard rivets for the front trunnion and 2 long swell neck rivets for the rear trunnion and a standard center support rivet.

My AK-74 build used 4 large swell neck rivets (cut long rear trunnion rivets to fit) and 2 standard rivets for the front trunnion. The rear trunnion was weird, it used one large swell neck and 2 in between size swell neck rivets. To correct the problem with the in between size I drilled out the holes and countersunk the holes so I could use long swell neck rivets cut to size. Also one standard size center support rivet.

So you see, it depends on what trunnions you have with your kit.

I have not as of yet ever seen a front trunion that was countersunk for swell neck rivets except the 2 nearest the magwell. The only one I can think of that is different is the Saiga front trunion .On the one I have only the very front one and the magwell ones are countersunk.

Heres a pic of the front trunnion on an AK-74 kit (K-VAR). You can see the countersink on the most forward and aft lower. And they are like the large rear trunnion rivet holes. I had to cut down two rear trunnion swellneck rivets for the front trunnion.

Thanks for the kind offer. Where did you find short, large diameter swell neck rivets? I didn't know they existed.

I cut a bunch of long ones down already from my rather large personal stash of rivets I figured I would never use up all the long ones in my life time so I made a bunch of short ones out of some.

WHat do you all think of Tapco's rivits? I used them on my last build and thought they worked well. They are a little softer than others but were plenty long enough.
