Check this out...

SLR-101S-1

7.62x39, MILLED receiver, butthole stock, single stack...

$269.95

You know, with just a little bit of work on the mill, I could open up that magazine well to accept standard capacity mags, swap out the appropriate parts count, and viola! you have a milled receiver RPK donor rifle... for cheaper than a firing line milled receiver. The advert even says the receiver will take a normal buttstock!

OK this sounds too easy and too inviting... what have I forgotten?

Thats not a bad idea.. Damned shame I don't have a mill...

You could probably even sell the parts you took off, to recoupe some of the cost... and that would be way better than a Firing Line unit as it would'nt have htat crappy looking eagle on the side...

I've looked at those. That will not work on a rpk if you want a swelled trunnion but they should be a standard 23 mm. So the barrels would fit OK.

The single to doublestack conversions, it appears to be no more than mag well and feed ramp.

It would take the milled stock.

I've read posts that others have taken single-stack stamped receivers & opened them up for double-stack with a DREMEL... figure it may be worth a try. That's probably going to be my 7.62 RPK project donor.

Headspace is the only problem, it doesn't say if the SLR-101 is a screwed receiver or pressed receiver... anyone know? Not sure how to headspace a screw build???

I think those rifles may be similar to the milled Bulgarian kits that are available from several different sources.

In that case, they will use the standard 23 mm trunnion.
