WASHINGTON, Jan. 6 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the release of the new employment numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which showed that 157,000 jobs were created in December:

"Any growth in our jobs numbers is good news. But even with today's jobs numbers, 1 million private sector jobs have been lost over the past four years, giving Republicans the worst jobs record since the Great Depression. And the Bush Administration has already lowed expectations about the job growth expected in 2005.

"The New Year should bring a new direction for our economy -- enacting middle class tax relief, assuring access to capital for small businesses, and rewarding companies that create jobs at home. Democrats have been fighting for these common sense steps for years. Unfortunately, all the Bush Administration is offering is more of the same."

It's kind of funny that all of these jobs are being lost, but here in WV coal mines are hiring people left and right. That hasn't happened in a while. Things haven't been this good here since Reaganomics. Everybody talks about Slick Willy's great economic plan, but he was doing nothing more than riding the boat of 12 years of Reagan/Bush1. It just took him 6 years to sink that boat. IIRC, the economy was in the toilet at the middle of his 2nd term, long before Bush2 stepped into office.

One of Willie's worst decisions was to fuel power plants with natural gas rather than coal.

It killed the coal business and diverted so much natural gas to the power industry that prices have shot up for home heating and other applications.

Yeah really. If you take the coal industry away from WV, then it's time to turn off the lights and lock the doors. I know when all the stink was being raised when Allegheny Power was going to install scrubbers so they could burn coal. Scrubbers filtered the air exceptionally well, and the waste product from the scrubbers was almost 100% pure gypsum. That's the main ingredient of sheetrock. It was a win/win situation all around.
