Remington model 8.

I was looking up stuff on AK's and came across a new group talking about Remington model 8's being similar to the AK.

I also now know that the weird gun in a local pawn shop is probably a model 8 that I did not look at. I might have to go down there Saturday morning.

There was also some stuff about this being the gun that was designed by Carbine Williams the guy that got a job with Remington after designing a gun in prison. He was the father of the M1 Carbine.

Have a look!

The first guy is lucky he still had enough fingers left to post his story :scared:

That 2nd one is pretty nice, but $2,500 Yikes.

The squared off rear section of the receiver, reminds me of a Browning.
Interesting.

Actually, Mr. John Browning designed the Model 8. It is totally different than the AK, being that it is the long recoil design. If you notice, the barrel diameter is very large. It is actually a shroud in which the actual barrel slides back and forth in (just like the Browning Auto 5 shotgun). The barrel slides back with recoil for the length of the cartridge.
Actually, one of the very first assault weapons was modeled after the Model 8 in 1909. It was the French Chauchat.

Police officers in the 30's often sent out their model 8s to a place called "Peace Officer Equipment Co." to be fitted with a removable 20 rnd clip to make it like a light BAR.

I've been looking at a nice Model 8 in .35 rem. I want to check one out bad, and try to wonder why it never became a military weapon as it was around in the 1900's...

The later version The model 81 woodmaster came out in 1936 and was produced until about 1950. They were also recoil operated. Cartridges were priority and restricted except the 300 Savage chambering.

There have been quite a few Model 8's on Gunbroker and Auction Arms. I think that you would be able to get a shooter grade for under $200.00. I was thinking of getting one myself.
