Don't think I've cleaned my AK's in at least a year. When the corrosive stuff was cheap and plentiful absolutely the same day it was fired through.

Had an ar15 foul up enough it wouldn't work one winter. Was shooting lots of plinking loads using the 50 spotter powder IMR 7383/RAD-782. Let the gun sit a couple weeks then the next trip out the usually soft fouling was hard and was causing the bolt carrier to bind. Didn't have my cleaning kit with me, so dripped ATF from the dipstick out of my truck to lube it up enough to shoot for the day. It worked, but I've kept a bottle of gun oil in the truck ever since. Using the same powder in some 303 loads the striker on a Fazakerley #5 locked up. Might of been 70 year old grease and freezing temps, but I'm pretty sure that powders fouling was to blame.

I clean my AKs about every 500 rounds or 6 months whatever comes first.
Unless it is corrosive ammo then it cleaned as soon as I get home.
