I'm just venting.

I'm tired of forums where some of the members think that it is their right to attack other members, even to the point of calling the other members names, insulting them, etc.

There are two forums I refuse to belong to. I won't name them because my "presence is conspicuous by its absence." Let's just say that they're probably the two biggest in the so-called "assault weapons" forums.

:usuck:

Both of these forums seem to have too many members who have the personality of the average workplace shooter.

:killemall

Oops! Too strong, maybe, but if the moderators of those forums can't discipline people even when they start insulting other board members, well...

:ban:

That's why I like Gunco.
K-Var's forum is okay.
HK94.com's AK forum is pretty good.
AKfiles is borderline for the above-mentioned reasons.
Usually, I spend so much time surfing forums that have to do with hunting guns that I don't spend too much time on AK forums.

Since Gunco, in my opinion, has one of the best AK forums, I thought I'd just say so.

:salute:

Okay. Speech over. 'Nuff Said.

Major,

I agree. For me its not necessarily getting involved with these childish games, but having to see and listen to them that ticks me off. I do find myself 95% of the time here at gunco where everyone gets along and helps each other out. I think you've made a great point here. Gunco deserves a big thumbs up! :thumbup1: :thumbup1:

Well said. I'm on a couple of other boards and find that the ones that share and help their membership are the most active. I like falfiles.com, they are a decent bunch and I belong to some Jeep boards that the members are much like us here at gunco. I guess there is something out there for everyone, its just find the one that fits the best. Jack

One of the best/worst sites out there is Glocktalk.

When I got into Glocks heavy, a few years ago, I lived at that site.
I say best/worse because as far as Glock info goes they are the 800 lb gorilla.

But they have got several members who live, just to devour newbies, and will use any post to start a confrontation.

They've got one pea brain (WalterGA) who in over 10,000 posts has never had a nice thing to say about anyone or anything.

It is also a very "cliquey" site, where if anyone should suggest that one of the members of one of these cliques, may be incorrect about something, or too harsh in a post, the other members of the clique, will descend upon you en masse.

I suppose when you have 35,000 members, as they do, You are bound to have some Aholes, but the mods just don't seem to care, who says what about who.

I couldn't stand it anymore, and ended up getting involved with a much smaller Glock site http://www.glock-guns.com/newforum/forum/default.asp
It reminds me a lot of this site, small, but with very good, helpful members.
I'm still a mod over there, but spend the majority of my time at this forum.

I had registered and posted at an F150 forum recently after I got my 93 Ford. At first it was okay then when I started sharing my experience using Accel ignition components and Bosch +4 plugs the mods started slamming me. There was some sort of prejudice against Accel on the board and I got the feeling that I had stepped into some sort crap from the past. I decided to leave after everything I posted about truck mods got slammed.

On another car forum we had 2 or 3 guys that knew everything and if you challenged them they would argue to the last degree over any little detail. After 3 years there I left that one too. They drove off all the best people who had the best knowledge who had helped me convert my 78 Cutlass from auto to stick.

It's really nice to have a place where people don't belittle you for asking the wrong question or lack of knowledge.

gunco is the place !!! I do go to a few other places from time to time, but I find their are sights that I read and rethink everything, I have to be very carefull about posting anything even thow it is true unless it is all rosey about some subjects and vendors. here at gunco you are free to talk about your accel ignitipon parts all you want , without :boxing: .
I also notice that I do not get abused for my poor spelling here. most of the time I am here it is well after midnight and I do not realy care that much if I invert a letter or two. I posted to a member directly at another sight and the next day had 27 responces from other guys attacking me slamming me insulting me calling me stupid , on and on . however when I pointed out my post was not directed to any of them and their would be a word for them if they acted this way butting in on face to face conversation. none of them had any responce after that.
great guys here and honest desire to help. gonco is the best

I hate the grammar Nazi's too! It doesn't bother me if someone has trouble typing or writing exactly perfect and I think there are many other ways to put that energy to use.

As long as someone isn't trolling then who cares if they have trouble writing? At least they are being involved and part of the community.

Well, it sounds like we need "Forum Surfers Anonymous." It's amazing that--okay--I hope I don't step on any toes here: Some of the nastier people on internet chat forums seem to be the people who can't find real friends in their life. So, they become members of internet forums so that they have someone to talk to, and end up showing everyone why no one wants anything to do with them in real life.

OUCH! That's the strongest negative thing I can say about anybody who surfs chat forums, so I hope I haven't inadvertently struck a nerve with anyone here!

To me, these forums are for ME to learn things I don't know, and pass along things I know that OTHERS don't know.

So, to all you immature little insult-tossers out there, on Goonsnet, ARFcom, AKfiles, Glocktalk--we all know where they hide--I'd like to give you my best visual representation of how we all feel:

I hear ya guys, I have enjoyed hanging out at the Fal Files for years and then I started getting into the AK thing so I spent some time over at the infamous AK47.net board, WOW what an eye opener that was!!!! Sure was glad when I got the invite to come over here and look around. Now the grammar thing, or lack there of, drives me right up a wall, but why should I let my pet peaves gripe your butt? I am sure the guy with the less than stellar typing/grammar abilities did not start a post or respond to one in hopes that someone would set him straight, so why even go there? Yes, all in all it is a good bunch of people we have here.

Although I'd be the first to agree with you on GN and GT, I have not seen much of a problem, comparatively speaking, on ARF.com or AKfiles.

They seem to be a much better moderated, with a lot less nonsense tolerated.
Both have also been supportive of us here at gunco.

In fact ARF.com just recently gave us permission to post their excellent AR15 lower receiver assembly how to, in our library section.

Campy Bob from ARF.com, AKA the most hated member ever at GN (His words, not mine) has been a friend here since day one.
Jen from FALfiles and AKfiles has also been on our side since the beginning. :thumbup1:

Amazing how coopertive all these evil people are at the other boards.

All that time I was told how evil all these people are and useless they were. Funny, how easy to get along with they are in the end and how 1 little infraction can get a person banned at a certain other board.

I want to make it clear that I'm NOT criticizing the moderators of ANY forum for anything other than maybe not policing the threads as carefully as they should sometimes. Plus, these forums all have some great members, too. Campybob is one of my favorite posters, and Jen is good too. I've also got my favorites, which I won't bore you by listing. The point is, I obviously don't mean that EVERYONE on these boards is bad--NO NO! Also, I haven't visited ARFcom or AKfiles in months, so in fairness to both maybe things have changed since my last visit.

I stopped surfing either of those two forums because, particularly in the "General Discussion" forums, it seemed like other members just hovered like vultures waiting for some poor sap to post a thread that they could pounce on. I know, I know, the "General Discussion" forums on any forum are generally so active that they keep any moderator busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest. The extent of the abuse and insults I saw heaped on forum members by their so-called "fellow" members on ARFcom was so great that even a less-than-attentive moderator should have caught most of them. I only remember seeing one thread closed with a warning to the member not to use a certain racial insult. Well, how about other insults? Is it okay to insult and belittle somebody as long as you don't use a racial epithet? (Sorry...ranting again.)

I particularly got tired of some of the members of ARFcom pouncing on threads that they could post a reply to saying how "gay" that thread was. Enough already! That was when I decided not to become a member of ARFcom. I know some of what goes on as attacking other members is good-natured humor, but it gets old, particularly when other members pick up on it and really lay into the author of the thread like it's time for serious internet whoop-ass on some forum member who doesn't agree with the "senior members."

And Gunsnet? I don't need to beat a dead horse. I never did register as a member because they stopped discussion of Bulgarian AK's made by Arsenal, and since that's all I own in terms of AK's...why waste my time? They also have a "General Discussion" forum where the vultures pounce on anyone that disagrees with them.

Major,

As a mod here and knowing the other guys on staff like I do. We do and will keep striving to make this a place where one can speak their mind without getting attacked.

No one has ever told me I was being unfair here because we have hardly any trouble. The only trouble we have had is some people from another forum who have issues with loosing their membership for obvious reasons.

BTW: The owners and mods at AR15 have been very cooperative with the management of this site as well AK files/FAL Files.
