Okay. Here's a quick and dirty DIY guide for making your own axis pin retaining plate. The material in this guide is just a piece of cardstock because it was easy to cut (and handy). I didn't bother to make this fancy, since it was done in about 5 minutes.

The attached pics are numbered to match up with the steps.

The groove in the axis pins is around 0.040" to 0.050" thick. A piece of receiver from a scrapped build is excellent material. Hobby and hardware stores usually have small pieces of steel and brass sheet in stock that will work for this as well.

1. You need to trim a piece of sheet metal to fit into the receiver. The piece needs to clear the upper and lower rails. It also needs to clear the stock tang and any rivets that might be from the scope rail.

2. Hold the piece of sheet metal in place and scribe the location of the axis pin holes. Mark the location of the selector hole too. These will be a guide to trimming the plate to rough shape.

3. Trim the plate to rough shape.

4. Drill the holes and cut the notches for the axis pins. Place the pins in the receiver and work the notches until the fit in the axis pin grooves is acceptable.

FCG Retainer Plate DIY Instructions (Part 2)

5. With the notches properly fitted, install the plate with both pins and hold it tightly in position. Scribe the location of the safety selector hole.

6. Drill the hole for the safety selector and check the fit. Make any adjustments necessary. Trim the plate to the final desired shape and deburr the edges. A small tab on the back end would make the plate easier to install and remove.

7. Finish the plate in any manner desired.
