I thought that you all might be interested in a little project that I tackled last night in the shop!
A fellow asked me to put a Marble full buckhorn rear sight on his Model 92 Puma rifle. The dovetail on the factory sight was much larger than on the replacement sight, so I had to do some creative splicing!
The factory sight dovetail was riveted to the sight blade, so I just drilled out the rivet and separated the two parts.
Next I had to grind and file off the integral dovetail of the Marbles sight. I used light colored spray primer to paint the top of the sight, then I scribed layout lines in the paint. I used hand files to shape and fit the Marbles sight into the Puma dovetail block. I had to modify to dovetail block so that the Marbles sight sat deeper into it. Once everything looked okay, I went ahead and use Force 44 low temperature silver solder to fuse the two pieces together.
Finally I cleaned and dressed the solder joint. I used cold blue to touch up the file markes. I oiled the sight and drove it home on the barrel.
That is my story and I am sticking to it!
