Came across this while doing a search for something :dunno: and wondered if anyone has used anything like this?

I use it all the time. Inexpensive and pretty good when you shoot a lot. I soak a lot of parts in it to get them ready for a good cleaning. If not too bad, I drain the Ed's Red back into my container filtering with a rag.

I leave out the acetone so I don't harm wood or plastic. I also leave out the lanolin and just let my hands go to hell!

I make Ed's Red by the gallon . . . best bore cleaner in the world IMNSHO.

Just get some Sweets 7.62 for the copper and your rolling.

In my experience, leaving out the Acetone reduces the cutting power of the solvent . . . but it will wipe out non-catalyzed finishes. If you clean from the breech, you probably won't have a problem. Use with caution, though.

Another home made gun cleaner.

I?m a new guy here but thought I?d put my two cents in. I haven?t tried Ed?s Red yet. I have been using another I found at makarov.com for over a year. I think that home made is fine for everyday cleaning and soaking off hard grease and crud. But serious cleaning of copper and lead buildup takes something more. Sweets 7.62 is fine and even better may be ?Blue Wonder? by Novum. B/W removed a lot more crud after
Sweets was done on my Nagant?s. Another great help with any gun is to use a Molly treatment of some kind (your choice) in the barrel, it?s best on new guns or after giving a complete cleaning. We can all learn from long-range target shooters about using Molly on bullets and in barrels. And if you?ve never tried ?Kano Labs? Kroil or Silikroil you?ve missed some great products, I?ve been surprised at what they can do, Fantastic! Rusted nuts, bolts & screws are easy with this stuff. It?s so much better than WD-40 it?s a joke.
I want to thank you all for your time and for putting up with an ?Oldgunner?.

Ed's Red ROCKS! Use it all the time and have never had my guns cleaner until I started using the stuff. For light buildup you may not even have to scrub, it is that potent. Lasts a long long time and much cheaper than any store-bought stuff.

Ditto on the Acetone bit - don't want to use that without testing first, in case it harms the finish!

Get yourself some good chemical-resistant gloves - the $5 blue ones from Home Depot - and a respirator, or use in good ventilation.

I mixed everything up in a paint can, again from HD, and put all my parts into one of those black cement mixing trays, from HD, for cleaning. Pour from the paint can into the tub, then back again via a funnel into the paint can for storing.

Me likey Ed's Red :D

I've heard that Blue Wonder is fantastic. I've been meaning to get some.
