Hi:
I have a C&R, purchased a rifle mainly for the parts, done with it now, so how would I dispose of it & take it off my log book?

Thanks for your info:Mike

I think you may have allready broke the law. The liscense allows you to buy for your collection. Not for parts or modifying.

That's just what I've been told on C&R forums in the past.
The only thing I see in the book is that ATF only recognizes assembled firearms as C&R.
Milsurps must be in original configuration. I can't find anything that answers your question.
Maybe you should just call ATF??
Then let us know. I have a bunch of U-Fixems I've been afraid to sporterize, but only because of advice from keyboard commando experts.

Maybe I should word it another way, Despose of a non operatable C&R? You know its all in the words you use & how you use them, more or less like a politican I would say, don't you agree?

The parts were used to improve his collection.

The receiver is still a firearm. I would log it out of my book as "modified to non-compliant status", or just sell it and log it as disposed.
I have a few C&R parts guns since many guns don't have suppliers for broken or inoperative parts. No big deal since I let my C&R expire and then reapply for a new C&R license and starting all over again.
The rules and regs book is so confusing you have to go to Harvard Law school to figure the damn things out.
Most of the ATF guys did not go too Harvard so they aint sure either. :)
But I think, key word here guess, think?? the last time I glanced through the book. You "are" allowed to sell a C&R weapon you have purchased. I would want too do it through a licensed FFL.
The key words I think they used "Sale of weapon was sold too enhance your collection."
So if I purchase 5 C&R weapons and dont like one of them. Can you not 'legal transfer' sell that one and purchase another weapon, or are you stuck with it for life?
My guess?? is the ATF is not going to put someone in jail for the legal sale of a C&R weapon purchase sale.
What they dont want you using the C&R for, is buying a case of weapons and selling them at a gun show.
O.K. good question asked by michael5005. So I am not really sure on this either. I get confused reading my Rifleman magazine.
Kernel where are you??? :)

I saw your other post and have to ask.
What rifle is it? How much of it is left? I'd think someone else might need parts too?
Destroy a C&R

Well, its a Lee Enfield #4Mk1 its missing some springs, the sear, trigger spring, misc, small springs, stacking swivil, the bolts OK, but more or less you have to checkwhat calls for a spring is missing, magazine catch. etc.It more or less is just to time consuming to spend on for me. Maybe it would be worth it just to sell it as a parts gun to someone with more time to spend. also stock has a crack in it, but can be repaired or replaced. Its the dam springs that are hard to find.

How much would you want for it?
Dispose of Rifle

Every thing else on the rifle is in good shape, but like I said it takes a patient man to put the thing back together.
I'll sell it for $150.00 plus shipping just to get it off my book because I'am nervous having the thing & don't know what to do with it.

Anybody interested? contact me at [email protected]

Mike
I don't know what it would be worth.
But I'd sell it, someone might want to bubba'fy it into a sporter or something along those lines.
