hello all, I have a friend that bought a SAR-2 with a PSOP 6x42 scope on it and he isn't able to get the scope to release from the siderail on his SAR. I tried to remove it this morning when I went to his place and with pulling out the brass colored handle (release handle) I couldn't get the scope to budge from the side rail. Is there a quick and easy way to remove this or is it a procedure shrouded in secrecy? Any help in this would be appreciated.

Here is a pic of the scope for those wondering:

With the lever removed, rotate the star shaped locking bolt clockwise (using the lever) until the tension is relieved from the clamp. This should allow you to remove the scope by sliding it of the mount.

If the above doesn't work, leave in condition above and use a wood block or similar soft item and tap the scope off the mount. Position the wood block at the front of the scope mount, just underneath where the scope cap lanyard attaches. You might also want to add some oil to the scope mount grooves prior to taping the scope off..

I had the same thing happen but the problem was the scope rail and mount were miss-aligned just a little, I had to tap it off. Then clean up the scope mount with small file. No damage was done to the scope or scope finish.

Hope this helps your situation.

Maybe use a big ole' cheater bar? The scope may have been a tight fit and someone pounded the lever down to latch it.

Can you loosen the screw for the latch lever?

When I tried to remove the scope there was no problem moving the latch lever to get it where it looks like the lever is disengaged. The lever moved easy enough it is just that the scope mount wouldn't move.
