Great time, great pictures. Thanks to all you guys. Great to see the old gang and make some new friends.

By the way, the young guy Swingset has pictured as "my pal" is my son, Mike. But, pal is pretty accurate, too.

Yeah, I sure had my gun woes that day. Bent firing pin on my son's Yugo SKS and an inexplicable failure to feed on my pre ban AK which previously has been my most reliable gun by far. Not sure what to do about the AK, either. Going to order a few firing pins for the SKS as we have 4 of them in the family and this is the second firing pin problem I have had.

Ironic that those $59 Mosins outperformed the more expensive stuff.

Hey Custer I don't know but in the vid you were making as much noise as everybody else LOL . Now as far as the older ones working better, I saw you in the pics and you and I are close to the same age and we're older and still work fine don;t we and we are reliable as well . This board with the younger guys has away of making me fell younger at least and I don't think I could find a better or more helpful group if I advertised for them and put my own options in. How about you :hyper: :kewlpics:
I'm with you. I still work fine, just need periodic maintenance.

I like a good blend of the young guys. They keep me on my toes.

Your day really didn't go well Custer. I guess mine either when I broke my 1911.

I was good boy when I went home, I swabbed the bores on all my rifles right away with windex then bore cleaner followed by light oil.

This week I'm going to electro clean all off my rifles and get it over with!
Took a vacation day yesterday and spent the whole day cleaning guns from the shoot.

I completely disassembled the 2 Mosins and really cleaned them up as it was the first time I fired them.

I then did the electro cleaning on those two Mosins. Seems to have helped. I think I'll do my other Mosin, the M48A and the K98 as I get time.

Ideally, that's how it should be. The electro-cleaning is only effective when there's not much loose crap in the mix (dirt, debris). It should pull off the deposits of metals & fouling from the barrel and adhere it to the rod. I try to get my guns as clean as possible before doing the electro to them and I find it helps out greatly, especially on really fouled-up barrels.
/QUOTE]

I learned that by trial and error. I did not clean the barrel on the first one. Went right to the electro process. I then cleaned it up and did it 2-3 more times and I think that was key. I did the second one the right way.

I used a coat hanger that I cleaned of all paint. It was ok, but hard to clean as I was using it.

I just made one out of stainless. I suspect it will work better and be easier to clean for reuse.

Hope you got a good one. I am very happy with mine. It is a 1945 model with beech stock. January 1945 stock, too.

I sent a letter Monday to the the soldier that was issued the rifle.

With luck, he speaks English and I'll get a reply. I enclosed a copy of the soldier's tag so either way he'll know what the letter is about.

All I need is some ammo.
