I must be using this thing wrong as with ONE build it mushroomed both the hardened inserts and also bent the #3 arm. I'm not putting excessive pressure on it as it took all that force to simply smash the rivets (I'm not somebody who is rough on thier tools). By press arm updates do you mean #s 1-3 ? If so I guess I'm interested in an update as I have one of your first and this thing is going to be done after one build.
How are the inserts set? I'm going to have to drill them out and put in a grade 8 bolt insert instead and I'll have to find another #3 arm.
I think the basic premiss is great, but I think this early design is a bit fragile.
I'm sorry to hear that you've had some difficulties with the jig. As I mention above, I'm working on a different design arm that will be more robust. As soon as I have some through my testing, I'll ship one to you. It may be a few days, so your continued patience is very much appreciated.
Hey Defens, do you have a time frame on when the new heat treated arms might be ready for those of us who bought jigs from the first run? I am in need of new arms; I have arm bending problems and no way of building the kits I have. Please help me out here as soon as possible. Thanks, LRRP-87.
Hey guys, just got an e-mail from Defens. He has been undergoing surgery, and that's what has caused the holdup. He told me that he'll be taking off 2 weeks in the Christmas/New Years time period to turn out the jigs and arms. Hopefully it won't be that much longer; and let's all put in a good word for him in the case of his recovery from surgery. I'll update with info as I get it.
It's been an interesting fall/winter. Starting with too much overtime on my real job, and a little surgical adventure, the year finished off with flooding, a vicious cold snap (which makes my unheated shop uninhabitable) and finally an 8-day power outage, due to that recent windstorm in Western Washington.
I'm going to start up jig production again this coming week. I make no promises on when I'll have new jigs (with new updated arms) ready to sell. But I will get replacement arms out to the guys who've contacted me as soon as I can. That should be within a two week time frame, starting next weekend. I'll send out those arms free of charge, with no shipping charges. Hopefully we can get all your jigs working as I intended them to work quite soon.
For those who would like to order jigs, I do have a dozen bases already built, and just need to build the arms and the clamping arm for the rear rivet. I anticipate that I'll have some ready to ship around mid month. I won't be taking any money from anyone until I either have jigs in hand and ready to ship, or I know that I'll be able to ship within a week. I don't want anyone to have money out of pocket, waiting for merchandise.
I haven't been following the forum too closely lately, with all the other "adventures" I've had this winter so far, but I'll check in more frequently, now that things are settling down again.
Thanks for your continued interest and patience, folks!
He said I was at the top of his list for replacement arms-NON yet.
He did say it was feezing as hell in his workshop, and it might take a little time.
I guess we all didnt think it would be this long.
Come on defends come through.
