yeah, handgun forum, build it yourself...does anyone have a 1911 project they are in the middle of or atleast planning? Folks are on the AK board everyday posting projects but theres no love for 1911s? anyway, i'm tring to finish my second build, my first went by unbelieveably easily. but this one has proved to be a real pain in my ass. has anyone used a kristi 80%? did it require a lot of filing for fitting of parts? I dont currently have a kristi frame for my build right now but the previous one I got was right on the money. I'm having problems with the sear and disconnecter but I got the parts kit from sportsmans guide and all the parts were pretty old and in bad shape-so i'm not sure if its the parts or the frame thats giving me trouble. anyway, i'm thinking of getting a kristi 80 unless someone talks me out of it or recommends a different source.
Thanks guys.

damn, i'm addicted now. I would like to try another another ak variant project but it seems everytime i turn around, I get another part in the mail or a frame is upsidedown on the dremel table waiting for me. Everyone makes a strong point about it being cheaper to buy one complete-and it seems like only convicts would need to build em, but until I take up oil painting or start collecting stamps, this seems like its the "hobby" for me. each 1911 (or ak for that matter) you build is unique in its own right. My guns will never be taken from me, and knowing that I built a few of them adds even more strength to my passion of the 2nd amendment.
well good luck with whatever builds you guys do. I think we all have the same problem though and it isnt as much with the builds themselves but aquiring the money to start them.

Nick,

Anytime you want to post good 1911 info here as far as links to suppliers feel man! We could use some development in that area and I am BIG 1911 fan!

I have an old Thompson Auto-ordinance that I heavily moded and one day I'm going to build one.

I was looking around looking to do the same thing BUT !After I came across this for only $350 out the door ! No Tax. I just could not pass it up. Maybe soon I'll start a build any way. This is a Rock Island Arms.

Now I could use this as a base gun and start frome there but then I would not have just a fun cheap shooter around. Who has a SS frame they sale ? That would be a nice start right ?
Gator.:santa:
