I fired an L1A1 today. The first time I fired it I was disapointed, I got a lot of jamming. This was because I was running with a metric mag in a SAE gun. Today I used a SAE mag and the gun ran without a miss. I started to sight it in and found the gun to be more accurate than my eyes. I realy could only see the spot about 75 yards out and I had great grouping their. at 100 yards I could not see the spot well enough with the open sights, I was able to drop a few rounds into the spot when I could see it, but sometimes I realy could not see the black spot as it blended in with the sights. now I am realy happy with this gun. Anyone else have an L1A1 and feel it is pretty accurate ??

FAL's are pretty cool. I dont have one, but I helped a friend of mine put his Imbel together. It was alot easier then building an AK. The only hitch I ran into is that I had to machine a little off the barrel to get it to time to the receiver properly. We were lucky enough that the headspace came out perfect the first time around and we didnt have to get a new locking shoulder.

We commonly shoot a. L1A1 at a 600 yd. target here and it is enjoyable. There's something so ultimately satisfying about putting a 20 round clip inside of the 12 in. plate at those distances.

One problem, although it's not the rifle. At the NRA show we tried to find someone in the optics department who could tell us if the product existed that would see the holes. That's a long walk.

There's something about shooting .308 that really makes you feel good. I think it has something to do with knowing that you can punch a nice hole in a target at 600 yards reliably. Play around with different ammo and find what you like.

The FN/FAL and wood-butted PMKMS are mine. I've tried a couple different scopes on the FAL. I REALLY liked the Springfield Armory 6x40 my buddy let me use for a few weeks. I'm considering the DSA 4x24 tactical scope with the Dragunov reticle.

With the FAL kits, you need to watch the bore around the muzzle. Some can be pitted and a little rough. These kits are prime for converting to a 17" carbine.

I would suggest that everyone have at least one FAL in their collection.

I have just begun adding FALs to my collection. They are really a well thought out weapon. I think what I like about them is that they are rugged, reliable, and very accurate. Like the AK, there is so much information available on them that it is a virtual history lesson learning about and building them. My favorite is the G1, STG 58, and the L1A1.

Century makes an Inch receiver. You can get one from them or FAC has them in their catalog. FAC Jack

I fortunately stocked up on a few three or four years back when there were a lot of them around.

Mine was so easy-- screwed them together; timing worked out right; head space worked out right-- threw the bolt in it and started shooting.

Check out the "market place" on www.falfiles.com . I got several kits on Ebay, very nice and at what I consider a fair price. Jack

I have a couple of FAL's that I like because they look like assault rifles. They seem easy to point and shoot well.

I have a future build consisting of an Isreali heavy barrel parts kit which is evidence that I like the basic design.

My one reservation - it's the purist in me - is that hinge between the front and rear sights. I know, the AR has a hinge too, just not between the sights.

Dennis, where did you find a Isreali heavy barrel? Jack
