Okay, where can I get a gas tube to fit this beast?
This one came from the "fair" pile of Polish underfolders kits that Todd from Ohio Rapid Fire had gotten in. This is actually the only bad piece in the kit. Everything is matching numbers including the gas tube. I have no idea what happened to the piston, but there is no damage to the barrel, carrier, or gas tube. No biggie, I was going to use one of my U.S. pistons for the build. I like the Polish pistol grip and handguards, so I needed another U.S. part anyway.
Todd posted an accurate description of the kits on AR15.com and Tina told me that the kits were pretty rough when I called, but I'm really happy with it. She asked me if I was sure I wanted it when I picked it up. She said she just wanted me to be sure I knew what I was getting into. The bore is shiny and the rifling is sharp. The lower handguard is already soaking in lacquer thinner to get the funk out of it. I think I'm going to order a replacement upper handguard, though. There are a lot of gouges and chips in it... The paint is chipped and scratched, but the metal isn't damaged. This is going to make a nice rifle after refinishing.
As usual, I will give a BIG thumbs up to ORF for being honest about their stuff and fair with the pricing! :thumbup1:
BTW I checked out one of the Zastava M76 rifles that ORF is building. MAN THESE ARE SWEET! They CNC machine the receivers and the rifle is beautiful. Todd is running another batch of Galils and then more Zastavas. There is another project in the works, but I won't spill the beans... :nono:
