For long term storage of an AK is cosmoline the only option?

Quality dessicant pack probably helps also.

Something buried in the ground, sealed. What would the shelf life be?

Thanks, just curious.

If it's properly packaged and sealed who knows, maybe 200 years or more. Maybe on the more side as we have recovered items from 200 years ago that didn't have any protection and we still know what they are.

With the dessicant, cosmoline and a vacuum sealed bag.....anyone got an idea?

Don't forget to strip it and take the springs out and disassemble the recoil spring assembly.

Better do the same for a few magazines as well. Don't forget ammo. Add an extra firing pin and a broken shell extractor for spares.

Ammo stored in sealed cases, like the sardine cans, looks just as good after 30 years as the day it was packed.

If you're going to do the PVC thing, use teflon tape on the threads for the perfect seal.

A collector turned me onto using carnauba-wax based paste floor wax for long-term storage. Collectors want to clean their high-end weapons as seldom as possible, but definitely don't want them to rust - yet don't want to glob them full of cosmoline, either.
