I want to build a totaly custom build. I want to have it look like my Romak only smaller. My plan is to use a barrel extention to make it look longer and to hand make a brake because I see nouthing oul thir that looks like the romak brake. So far I have a stock and rear tang. I do not want to spend a boat load of money on this and I am in no hurry at this point. what I realy need to find now is a barrel assy and trunion!! then bolt and carrier. I do not care about matching numbers or finish because I am able to re-park everything. later on I will need a dust cover and drive spring and some of the other small parts. I want to see if I can find the large parts reasonably enough to do this, before I buy the small stuff.
If you have a barrel assy, trunion, bolt, blot carrier. pm me with what you need for it. I do not mind buying from differant guys, if someone has only part of what I need. first off I realy need a barrel assy and trunion, before I buy much else.

thanks guys hotbarrel

FAC (Guns-n-stuff) has new, uninstalled Romanian barrel assemblies for $49.95:

If you pick up an AMD-65 kit from Tapco or Centerfire, you'll have all the rest of your parts except the scope rail. Trunnion, bolt, carrier and all the little parts in one purchase. Go with the used kit since you're going to refinish it and save an extra $20. This would give you some extra parts, but that's never a bad thing.

If you order the 65 kit and buy a new barrel from K-Var, you'll still be in a reasonable price range. I bought one of the new Romanian 7.62 barrels (part # AK-174) when they were on sale. The barrels are chrome lined and do not have a gas port drilled, so you can use whatever gas block you want.

If you got the Romak kit and receiver from Centerfire, you may have an extra Romak 3 scope rail that came with the kit.

Of course, you could just order an AMD-63 kit and use a Romak stock and muzzle device. This would eliminate the parts scrounging, and make life a little easier.

AA-OK has a muzzle device that is long and skinny. Part # is 2-217. It's not the same as the Romak, but it's something...

Post pics when you get going on this!

EDIT: If you are using an actual Romak 3 buttstock, you'll be a lot happier with the grip as opposed to a WUM-1 or Romak 1 or 2 buttstock. The pistol grip portion is much wider on the smaller rifles and is somewhat uncomfortable. Replicating the cut on the Romak 3 receiver (maybe even adding the reinforcing plates on the sides of the stock tang) would just add a little more style and individuality to your build.

I would look at buying a kit like suggested above. You dont want to have to buy from 10 different people. That could get very expensive. Atleast with a kit you will have everything you will need, and then what you dont want, you could sell to afford the extras. Good luck.

Don't forget scrounging around at gun shows too. That's what I'm doing this weekend at the Hampton VA gun show for my pistol build ;)

Hrm now you know, I've always wanted a "tricked out" AK. Maybe I'll get doubles of the spare parts for another build lol
