It's nice to hear a heart-warming story this time of year.

HUNTINGTON -- It will be three days later than originally planned and in a different location, but toys for about 400 local children in need still will be distributed in time for Christmas.

As reported earlier, fire on Thursday destroyed about 2,000 toys worth about $7,000 that were in the garage of Michael Hines, a member of Huntington Detachment 340 of the Marine Corps League who has coordinated the Toys for Tots campaign drive the past six years.

The toys originally were to be distributed Saturday morning. Toys will be given out to an already identified group of families at 9 a.m. Monday at the School of Nursing gymnasium at St. Mary?s Medical Center, Hines said.

An outpouring of generosity from the community immediately following the fire replenished the toy supply to the point that excess toys and cash will benefit other local charities and go toward next year?s toy drive.

"We?ve got 35 bicycles, and we?ve got everything imaginable," Hines said Saturday morning.

Hines said the cause of the fire at the garage at his Highlawn neighborhood home had still not been determined.

Its is just rare for the media to recognize them, especially local news. If is not a shooting or car wreck it usually does not make news
