I remember a discussion about permanently attaching a muzzle brake to a 74 on a board that shall remain in the past. It seems to me that the 74 does not have a granade launcher ability and thus it would not need to be pinned or silver soldered. Do you guys remember any thing like that or in the alternative does anyone know if there is a granade launcher for the 74? Thanks Jack

I feel like I'm taking a stab in the dark but wasn't it something to do with the thread size of the romanian fsb being a certain size, and that there were no flash hiders in that thread size so it didn't need to be permanently attached? Also I think linx310 had something about it on his website romanian ak page

Since there is no EVIL flash hiders made for the 22mm threads of the Romy FSB the ATF has allowed the use fo the 22mm threads without welding..

There are EVIL flash hiders avalible for the 24mm threads of the other sight bases, so they must be welded...

what size threads do you have on the fsb?

I think they are 24mm. I went to the Romanian AK site and he seems to think that since the front site base has the threads and not the barrel then the law is not violated.

Before we replace the Front Sight Block I must mention a few things. Because of a cool technicality in the law you can put a Romanian Threaded Sight Block on a SAR-2 rifle because of its odd thread size. This is legal because the threads are on the sight block, not the barrel, and the fact that it is threaded with 22mm threads, which currently there are no sound suppressors, or flash suppressors designed with that thread size. Here is a link to the BATF ruling that this is legal.

I am going to review the law and see if I can agree. If so the the 74 becomes an even better weapon to own. (at least until September)
