I bought a set screw muzzle brake for my SAR-1. The only problem is that it is too small to fit over the end of the barrel. My possible solution is to thread the SAR barrel and possibly thread the muzzle brake. My question is: Does anyone here have the equipment to thread this thing for me? I would be more than willing to give up some $$$ to have this done. It is just the brake I have been looking for. It's the one with the wire cutter end on it. Again, if anyone has a way to thread this brake for me, I would be ETERNALLY grateful and will be more than willing to pay you for your time and effort.. :thankyou:

What I did on several SAR's was to turn down the inside diameter of the brake to a .0015 interference fit and heat the brake and shrink it onto the barrel then do a small tig weld to the FSB all of them have held up just fine.

I don't have any way to turn the inside of the brake down, and besides I am getting the barrel threading kit from wjm next week. So this SAR barrel will be threaded. If I can't get the brake threaded, I guess I will have to sell it and find one that is already threaded. I appreciate the help just the same alfajim.

I think you may find that the barrels on the SAR's are too small in diameter to thread if I recall correctly. It seems like they range in the .450 to .460 range? Steve at ww machine 231-6324 could thread the brake for you.

Looks like I will be selling the brake to help toward the purchase of a new brake. The one I have is like the Krinkov one on Dyna Systems, except mine is setscrew and has the wirecutter notches on it. Anybody interested in a nice brake?

are you looking for the tap to be able to tap it yourself, or do you need someone to do the tap work for you?

I think I would like to leave the tapping to someone who knows how to do it. I am not sure I feel comfortable doing it myself.
Its your call, but threading is pretty easy. If you get the stuff we can walk you through it. If not, don't worry, stay with us, you will get to a position where you can do the next one. Jack

I can't remember where it was at, but it was posted on this forum, a web site that had the taps and dies needed to thread a barrel and a brake and the dies and taps were really not that expensive. Does anybody remember who posted it?????? ak'sr4me

Check one of my earlier on this thread. I really like the people at Dyna Systems , but their web site sucks. You have to call them to order. The up side is that they are really good to talk to and can answer most questions. Jack
