Here's my first one.
I bought two lowers at the same time (consecutive numbers) I'm going to build the other one, as a 24" varminter.

If I ever get a hold of a mill, I would love to try one, from a 0% forging.

That's some nice hardware there guys! I really like that billet peice all polished up. For 4 years I've been thinking about an AR, but I just can't get past the money yet. Maybe being here will convince me to build one.

Now that's exceptional, :notworthy
what alloy is that and what kind of CNC did that? (assuming it is a CNC)I would love to see that in a detailed picture sequence.

Nice looking pictures and AR. I'm not that tallented to start from a blank and do the machining. I built; or should I say assembled; my M4 from a stripped upper and lower then bought all the stuff to complete it. Used all Rock River Arms parts.
Here's a picture of it but forgot to put in a mag to make it look better. :)

I made the receivers from 6061 aluminum. I know 6061 isn't as strong as 7075, but I just couldn't stand the price of buying a 12 foot bar of 7075....the 12 foot bar of 6061 was expensive enough...haha I've shot thousands of rounds through my 6061 receivers and still haven't had any problems. I think the military use 7075 just because they need it to be as strong as possible. I won't be dropping my AR's in the dirt anytime soon, so the 6061 receivers work fine for me :) The CNC machine that I used is a Fanuc Robodrill. For the most part I used the Robodrill, but I also used a Fadal VMC as well. Since I think the Fadals are shit compared to the Robodrills, I used the Robodrills every chance I got. We currently have 5 Fadals, and 5 Robodrills. We will slowly be removing the Fadals and replacing them with Robodrills :)

If you go to my website.... www.cncgunsmithing.com you will see the projects I've done....including the step by step pics of this AR-15.

Justin

i just spent about 45 minutes on your site, truly astounding job. I sure liked the fresh milled look, wish you hadn't blasted it till the last.
The whole idea of building an AR got me into the AK building. The build doesn't require a $35,000 4 axis CNC....for those of us less fortunate :(

When are you going to get those 80% geared off? Maybe offer that jig and a 80%???

great job again on all your builds you did

kevin_m4: I know you guys probably like the freshly milled look, but since I see this fresh milled look everyday at work, I like to see something different, so that's why I bead blast most of my stuff. That's great that my website got you into building your own guns :) That is the whole point of me doing this website thing, so I can show people how to build their own guns and to expand our hobby  I'm still working on getting approved to sell my AR lowers. The ATF rejected my first 80% sample because they considered it a firearm :( So I'm going to go back and make another sample with less work completed. Hopefully they will like this new design. It took forever to get a response from the ATF on my first sample....hopefully it'll go a little quicker this time :) I'll list them on my website when they are ready to go.

MiniZ: haha  I wasn't really going for the "pimp" look, but I guess that's kinda what it looks like...haha

Justin
