Hey ladies and gentlemen,
Since the collapse of a recent group buy I have managed to acquire all the parts for my first build, except one... a barrel extension. I went to Tapco's website to look for one and lo and behold they are on sale for $4.99. So I think "cool, here is my last part". But the shipping on the beast was $8.95! Unfortunately, I am kind of short on $$$ right now or I would maybe have ordered more to justify the shipping cost. My question is this: Does anyone have a source for American made barrel extensions for an AMD-65, or does anyone have any extras that they would sell? I just can't make myself pay that kind of shipping for a $5 part. Any suggestions on sources, and any help at all will be GREATLY appreciated.

Try DPH arms on this board. His post can be found in the Parts and Accessories forum. Just click on his name on one of his post and you'll get a menu, choose either a private message or an email. I bought one from him last week and I was happy with both the price and speed of shipping.
BTW where did you see AMD-65 short pistons for $4.99? I couldn't find it but I suspect they were the original Hungarian made take offs and not a U.S. made compliance part.

I think he's talking about the barrel extension and not the piston being $4.95. The header for the post is for a barrel extension, but then he talks about wanting to buy a piston from someone else instead of having to pay for the high shipping prices on just one item. To me, it sounds like you're wanting to swap out using a US piston instead of a US extension. Actually, either way you need the extension to get the legal length of 16''(I think) for your rifle. You have to have this anyway you look at it unless you're going to build an SBR, which I don't know alot about the laws for. Or, if you have a long muzzle break which will make the total OAL correct. So, make sure and get your total OAL right and your US parts count right. Also when counting, if I remember correctly, you can't use the extension as a US part because the stock MB that comes with the rifle is imported and so they cancel each other out. Swap it out with a US MB and you're up one US part now.

Even if you were looking for a US piston from someone to use as a replacement US part for the barrel extension....price on extension with shipping=$14. Price on AMD-65 short piston from a member probably around $15 or so.

I must have been tired when I wrote this. What I need is a barrel extension, or one of those longer flash suppressors. I guess "gas piston" kept popping in my head as I typed because I just got my gas piston. So, what I really need is to make my barrel legal length, not a gas piston. Sorry for having my head up my @$$ when I typed the first post. :sorry:

Well, I no longer need the extension. I saw the Tapco kits for $59 and could not resist ordering one, since I ordered another kit, I went ahead and ordered 2 barrel extensions.
