Need an opinion on headspacing a kit

Hello,

I have a question about head spacing. I checked my gauges on a completed Vector AK rifle. They are in spec. I have posted some pics of the bolt and how much it closes and you will see I made a reference mark on how far it turns in on the GO gauge. It will not close on the NO-GO gauge. Question is this enough or should I beat the barrel out some? I have read that many times that the rifle after it has been shot will settle in on its own. When checking the gauges on the Vector I failed to look and see if the bolt completely touches the side of the trunnion once closed. Can anyone shed some light on this? What do you think?

Oh and I have read that you can slightly hit the barrel to move it a little. Beat is probably not the best word to use.

2nd and 3rd picture show bolt not closing with the no-go gauge.

Pictures are of both Go and No-go gauge.

It's not supposed to close on the NO-GO. If it does your headspace is too much.

This sounds correct as-is.

Correct it does not close on the no-go gauge.

So are you saying leave as is and finish the build?
Yes, if it DOES NOT close on a NO-GO gauge, then you'll be fine.
Hcpookie,

Cool. Just out of curiousity is it supposed to turn even more? You see the space. You can kind of see where the bolt is wore from prior use just above the reference mark I made.

Thanks.
It wont rotate all the way over to the trunion. your slightly tight but if it closes on a round you are OK. If it ends up to tight You have several options. take about .001 off the bolt face or the lugs. Id recomend the bolt face if its really close. looking at thr picturres id say your ok. try a few differant types of ammo and make sure it closes on all of them.

Your certainly safe to fire a round and see if it moves. If it moves it wont be much.
which brand and spec go gauge are you using? my last G kit build barely closed on the manson CIP-spec go gage. I needed light finger pressure to close it. that is as tight as it can get and still be within spec.

I routinely lap bolts on my pistol conversions when the chamber is a tad bit short. A few simple easily made tools will do the job. Even if you use a file you can then see with the lap how the bolt lugs relationship with the trunnion.

I have a tool that i made that made as wellnthat is for trueing actions Mine a little differant it goes through the trunion bore and pushes down on the bolt to keep it true and I then work the bolt back and forth.

Great minds or is it the mindless think the same.

Some pic's of the tool I use to do the trunnions on virgin Trunnions and barrels/ re barreling. Adjustable to increase the pressure if needed.

thats close to what I have. mine has a few differant features but its the same idea.
The two matching number G kits I built do not close on a Foster Go Gauge. I have fired over 800 rounds of Russian Barnul through both with no problems.
