Couple Arrested For Asking For Directions

BALTIMORE -- Baltimore City police arrested a Virginia couple over the weekend after they asked an officer for directions.
WBAL-TV 11 News I-Team reporter David Collins said Joshua Kelly and Llara Brook, of Chantilly, Va., got lost leaving an Orioles game on Saturday. Collins reported a city officer arrested them for trespassing on a public street while they were asking for directions .
"In jail for eight hours -- sleeping on a concrete floor next to a toilet," Kelly said.
"It was a nightmare," Brook said. "I was in there thinking I was just dreaming and waiting to wake up."
Collins reported it was a nightmare ending to a nearly perfect day. He said the couple went to a company picnic and watched the Orioles beat Kansas City. It was their first trip to Camden Yards and asked two people for directions to Interstate 95 South when they left.
Collins said somehow they ended up in the Cherry Hill section of south Baltimore. Hopelessly lost, relief melted away concerns after they spotted a police vehicle.
"I said, 'Thank goodness, could you please get us to 95?" Kelly said.
"The first thing that she said to us was no -- you just ran that stop sign, pull over," Brook said. "It wasn't a big deal. We'll pay the stop sign violation, but can we have directions?"
"What she said was 'You found your own way in here, you can find your own way out.'" Kelly said.
Collins said the couple spotted another police vehicle and flagged that officer down for directions. But Officer Natalie Preston, a six-year veteran of the force, intervened.
"That really threw us for a loop when she stepped in between our cars," Kelly said. "(She) said my partner is not going to step in front of me and tell you directions if I'm not."
Collins reported the circumstances got worse. Kelly pulled 40 feet forward parking next to a curb and put his flashers on while Brook was on the phone to her father hoping he could help her with directions. Both her parents are police officers in the Harrisburg, Pa., area.
"(Brook's father) was in the middle of giving us directions when the officer screeched up behind us and got out of the car and asked me to step out. I obeyed," Kelly said. "I obeyed everything -- stepped out of the car, put my hands behind my back, and the next thing I know, I was getting arrested for trespassing."
"By this time, I was completely in tears," Brook said. "I said, 'Ma'am, you know, we just need your help. We are not trying to cause you any trouble. I'm not leaving him here.' What she did was walk over to my side of the car and said, 'Ok, we are taking you downtown, too.'"
Collins said the couple was released from jail without being charged with anything. Brook is now concerned the arrest may complicate a criminal background check she's going through in her job as a child care worker.
Collins said police left Kelly's car unlocked and the windows down at the impound lot. He reported a cell phone charger, pair of sunglasses and 20 CDs were stolen.
Baltimore City police said they are looking into the incident.

what f^@7tards!!!but they wont bust the dope dealer or the illegal on the friggin corner!!!and i bet the scum at the impound yard cleaned out the car for them!!!
The crack and heroin dealers 'get a pass'. Charry hell' IS the ghetto. Those kids were probably scared out of thier minds and expected the cops to 'serve and protect'. That doesn't happen.
The cameras are spaced about a block apart (to film the murders). Total police state.
Some nice (grand jury indited) politicians extracted a bunch of money from the working class and did alot of rebuilding recently but this pic will give you an idea of where they ended up. The police are only there to serve child support papers. 24/7

I hope this comment is only for the bad rotten power hungry numbnuts pigs out there...and not for the entire police officers across the nations.
And even the kids in the ghetto say: "Fock the Police". I used to wonder why; now I know...
I spend a lot more time worrying about being victimized by the police than I do worrying about being mugged or robbed. I've had more bad encounters with the police than I care to recount at the moment, capped off by when they kicked my back door in for a drug raid.

Too bad they had the wrong house.

The police don't deter any criminals from doing anything. They don't investigate crimes, other than taking confessions or listening to snitches. If the local PD vanished right now, people would drive faster and there'd be more dope for sale, but as far as I see it, nothing else would change.

They're just another gang, except with fancier gang colors.
to protect and serve..........................

or is it

to punish and enslave...........................
Sound like the Race Card being played here.

My guess is the couple who got lost in gettoland were white, & the harrassing cops black. Not sure of course, only about 95%....
Yeah more to this than a one-sided news article. Surely it isn't that infantile of an issue.
Several years ago, I got lost trying to get the the ferry that goes across Lake Michagan. We were at a stop light and this African American cop pulled up along side of us. He was bigger than the police car. I asked for directions just as the light changed, and he said follow him. He took us right to the ferry. Not his fault but we were late and missed the ferry. He was a very personable fellow. NOT all cops are shit heads, and THEY should break the heads of the one who are, for giving them a bad name.
imagine what those baboons do when they catch a a homeboy ridin dirty. those wads'o cash just never were there.just enuf drugs confiscated to make a painfull felony stick, rest gets taken. sad story.
i agree there partsman-not all leos are bad
heck most of em are vets -at least the ones i know here
and a few of the hispanic and afro leos i know are quite proffesional
then there are those that use it like welfare-to there advantage without giving a crap
The State or Federal authorities should wait a couple of months and then send in some young nerdy looking State Police or FBI agents and ask her for directions and if she violates their rights give her some time.
yea these shit head cops in dayton arrested me for getting shot at and charged me with aggrevated menacing(which did not stick) all because i stayed on this guy till they got there.I was tryin to keep my friends from beating the shit out of him after he fired and the cops thought we provoked it when we were just walking home from the bar (doin the right thing)and this drunk shot outta nowhere at our feet.Between that and getting harrassed because i got a good job and customize my rides and getting profiled as a dealer,I have ZERO respect for dayton cops.Rot in hell pricks.
I have very little use for abusive cops and I have had my run ins with them over piddly ass shit.

I am generally not a vindictive person but I would be looking for a lawyer for punitive damages and demanding that police officer apologize and be removed from patrol duty. Damn lucky these two didn't get shot by her.
Cop should be fired as far as I'm concerned. She has no business "protecting and serving" the citizens. (and..... obviously, she wasn't trying to either).
