Hello All,

Not a Nube, just need some additional brainpower and practical experience.

I have a number of Romanian kits that I am about to build. I have taken stock of all of my spares and stuff. After thinking about it all, I think I want to build two AK rifles in 5.45x39. Cool! Except; my Romy kits are 7.62x39. So, here are my questions:

1. Can I buy a Bulgarian 5.45x39 Barrel from Copes, and expect it to fit into the Romy front trunion?

2. Will my 7.62x39 Bolt work unmodified for the 5.45x39 cartridge?

3. Will I need to aquire anything else to replace specific parts in my kits to make this conversion work?

4. My intent is to use the AKreceivers.com receivers for the builds. Any known issues there?

I am reaching out to the Old Dogs here, but any comments ar welcome.

Thanks All,

Not sure, I have never taken the time to measure the parts.

Make sure the barrel parts will press on and be tight enough, I was working on a Bulgy 74 today and IIRC it had a 90deg gas block, the Romy G is 45 deg. If that would work then your GTG.

4. My intent is to use the AKreceivers.com receivers for the builds. Any known issues there?

I have built 20+ guns with these receivers, the 7.62 receivers seem to let the blot carrier hang when charging the gun. That hasn't been a problem with the 5.45 receivers.
If your in Cali you won't be able to order their receivers direct. They only ship to 1 FFL in the State and you'll need to buy from them, http://www.prkarms.org/ or at least thats what I was told by the owner when he called me.

Thanks All,
I hope this can help you out, if you need more info PM me and when I get back to the shop next week I can give you some measurments from a Bulgy 74 kit.

no rim is too large

3. Will I need to aquire anything else to replace specific parts in my kits to make this conversion work?
sell or trade one of your g kits to fund a 74 kit

4. My intent is to use the AKreceivers.com receivers for the builds. Any known issues there?
