I just thought I would share a story with you guys. :) today a dragged the lawn mower out, this is not my favorite job. my mower is a year old and pretty good size for a standard typ mower. Anyway I started by filling up the fuel tank because it was only about 1/4 full. as I was filling I noticed the fuel was red, now this did not worry my much because I put stabil in the fuel and it is red. Just about the time it is getting full I am thinking wow that ip allmost too red so I stopped and smelled the tank. Now I realize it is not gas but deisel fuel. I figure wtf run it it has gas in the carb so it started fine but after about ten seconds it started to sputter, I backed out the jet about 1/2 turn and it smoothed out so I kept cutting. as I was cutting I rembered a few guys telling me about deisel in their cars and they ran ok till they shut down and let the engine cool then they would not start the next day. I figured if they kept it running till it was allmost empty then fill it up with real gas without shutting down everything should be fine. SOoo I mowed the entire yard, I mowed the edje of the road, I mowed down the logging road most of the way down the mountain, I mowed everything!!! I left it running in the yard for another hour or so till it ran out. filled it up with gas and it started fine readjusted the carb and I guess everything is OK.
I just thought I would share my sort of funny story with you all HAHAHahaha.

As soon as you mentioned it was red, I had a feeling as to where this story was headed.

Fortunately, you still had enough gas in there to dilute the diesel enough to keep from having problems.

I have a friend who owns a gas station, one of his pump jockeys filled a car's gas tank with diesel.
The car only made it a couple of miles, cost him plenty.

I watched a women fill both tanks on her diesel pickup with gas at a gas station some years ago.

She had just got done filling the 2nd tank when she let out a scream. Someone asked what was wrong as she started moaning and crying, she said I filled my husbands truck with gas and it's a diesel, he's going to kill me! She went inside to arrange a tow truck ...............

I bet that was a bad day for her!

As a mechanic I have seen this one from time to time. Often times the customer won't even tell you, they just say "I don't know, it just quit running". After I spend my time diagnosing it, and mind you it is not a simple problem to diagnose, I charge them accordingly. I had one guy who ran out of gas and filled it with whatever was in the gas can, in this instance it happened to be water!!! That was a neat trick, just backing the jet out and keep on mowing. I would've said you were done right there.
