Just finished the build on the ORF receiver. It's builted on a GI kit.
Only tough thing was the enjector block. With a lots of hand filling, it now fits like a glove. The rest of the build was quite easy. Had a little trouble getting the upper to lock up with the lower. For the money the ORF receiver is well worth the money. Next thing to do, is take it apart and make it pretty.

I'm a little confussed. You actually got a ORF FAL receiver??? I thought those were a myth like their mp5 receivers, good customer service etc etc.

I'm glad they came through with the product they sold some people 3 years ago.

It looks very nice Jimmy, What are going to use for a finish?
I e-mailed Kelly earlier this week and she said that they had them in stock. The write up that I found on the Fal Files took several posts to cover the whole deal and none of it was good.
If you know what your doing, building on a ORF receiver is a simple matter.
I'll refinish the rifle with a thin coat of primer, and 3 coats of semi-gloss black.
then it will be baked in the oven at 110 degrees.
ive been thinking about building my imbel kit on an ORF receiver but the thing holding me back from buying it was the lack of an ejector block. where did u get your ejector block from?

Key point! Most people expect AR-15 assembly when building some of these guns! :D

Unfortunately I think some of the negative issues have plagued them enough that everyone paints them with a broad brush... which is why they are now a mail-order only company.

I for one have never had a bad issue with them or their products and I have ordered from them several times over the years. My Galil build on their receiver literally fell together in an afternoon. But YMMV, could cause cancer, do not expose to direct sunlight, yadda yadda

I brought several FAL G1 Kits several years back. They come with everything, including the ejector block. I might have a extra one if your interested.
I have a sh#t pot of fal parts. Enough to make 2 kits. Also some nice scope mounts.
For those that needs a ejector block, Check out GunThings.com, Military Small Arms Parts Headquarters!  FNFAL, L1A1, 1919, AK, Galil
Look under FN FAL upper receiver parts.
This is what you will need.
1 ejector block, stripped
2 ejector block pins, you'll need 2 pins. one long, and one short.
3 mag release, and mag spring, and mag release pivit screw.
Cost should be $30.00 plus shipping.
Good luck.
Great Job Jimmy. I almost went that route but then got tempted by a CAI L1A1 receiver. I has a few problems but mostly appear to be just extra filing in spots.
I have had such great success with DSA and excellent customer service that I cant bring myself to stray, the price difference isnt that great when all things are considered. Just my opinion.
I think I could have put my DSA together blindfolded it was so perfect. But it cost 450 and the last CAI cost $99. It will be my trasher gun.

At $450 I agree it is overpriced, but you should be able to one for $350, you may have to be patient for delivery, but you never know, if they dont have them in stock they have always given me an accurate time frome to expect for delivery, I have heard people claim that DSA has yanked them around on delivery times, but it has never happened to me. The new Century receivers are ok, I just dont trust a cast receiver with the power of .308 banging on it, but I havent ever seen any for $99 either.
Not bashing any receiver, CAI, Enterprise, Coonan, are all good , I just prefer DSA. I wouldnt touch a Hesse
If I wasnt so broke Id like to have another FAL kit and I would give the ORF a try so I could have a more educated comment. I do believe they are forged receivers.
Jimmy T, why the california model scope mount if you don't mind me asking?

The scope mount is a Tapco FAL/L1A1. I brought a few several years ago.
The design allows top loading. Is this mount called a California? If so, why?
I usually only see them on California guns because Commiefornia law requires that you permanently affix the magazine (no bigger than 10 round capacity). Because you can't remove the mag, you need a way to load it.... strippers from the top. If you have a removable mag I'd think you'd want that part of the action enclosed as much as possible just to keep the debri out. Not to mention your fingers, ouch! But whatever floats your boat my friend, it is kind of neat looking.

OK, Now I remember the California law, about the 10 round mag.
I like this scope mount, as you can see the bolt and carrier, and the easy to insert and remove bullets, and to teach you to keep your fingers out of the action. I have many top covers, But l like this one. If you need this scope mount to hold zero, it needs to be very good and tight.
Lets face it. We all like things to fit good and tight.

Loose, tight... depends on how drunk I am.
