Kewl,

I've made a few hump back trunks, but never have made a canteen. Perhaps I'll give that a try some day.

Lupe,

Did you have a set of plans on how to make that canteen, or did you design it yerself?

I'd like to build one for my cowboy shooting, and I'd like to have it hold water.

Nope, just wanted a period canteen, went out to the shop and built one. I have to admit that I cheated and used plastic inards. But only my hairdresser knew.:)

That's a good idea. I'll think about it, I might make one like that.

I'll check with Dixie too. :)

Yeah, I saw it Lupe.

I just checked their website, and found this kit:

Heck, I should be able to make that in my shop.

Custer,

Where do ya get dehydrated water? :D

That kit looks like it's made out of pine. I think it would be best if it would be made out of white oak. That's what most ships and barrels were made out of.

Why not use a skin with a bladder? A lot of those were carried in those days.

I think they used to soak the skin and the evaporation helped cool the water inside.
