Guys ive been tooling around with something today that might make barrel removal a much more pleasureable expierience. I was digging around in my tool box today cleaning it out and found my old power steering pully puller from Auto Zone. To make a long story short, with a few MINOR mods to the puller jaws it fit a trunnion perfectly. I dont mean almost. It fit.... period. I dont have a barrel to push right now but as soon as I do Ill try it and try to post some pics. But right now I dont see any reason why it wont work. Stay tuned. TREY

Right after I made the post I went out and hammerd an old bum barrel into a trunnion just so I could pull it out again. I WILL NEVER USE A HAMMER TO REMOVE A BARREL AGAIN. ! It works and I didnt even break a sweat. I said I would post some pics but I really need to make a video of this. I pushed the barrel out with an air ratchet. Effortless . I realize a barrel thats been set for 20 of 30 years may be a bit tougher. I say bring on the AMDs LOL. This one has OEM stamped in it with a pic of a gear stamped under that. There is a part# on it. 25190. I bought this about 6 years ago. The only thing I had to do is grind some relief into the jaws in the area that contacted the barrel pin area. 5 mins tops. You use the wide side of the puller for Fords and the narrow side for GM and AK barrel removal. The good thing about it is I can still use it for power steering pullies. If you go looking for one look for the one with the two black jaws that are removeable with two knerled thumb screws.

pics are in.

Here is the barrel removal tool
Pic 1 the tool
pic 2 is the tool components. You can see the bright areas in the jaws. This is the only mod I had to make.
pic 4 clamping the tool by the jaws insures it cant spring open.

I hope this works

Heres more

Pic 5. The drive screw clears the lugs in the trunnion perfectly.
pic 6 the main body of the tool is almost the same width as the trunnion.

I did try a new amd last night and it did take quite a bit mor force than the first time. But I did it useing no heat at all. I was able to press it out cold.

Good idea, however I see a problem here - what about a trunion that's already in a receiver? Seems the jaws won't have enough clearance to fit it to me?

OTOH, this would be perfect to remove the FSB and GB from the barrel...

Picked one up today at Autozone. Part number 25190. A few minutes under the grinder. A 3/4 inch socket (3 pennies) and a bunch of turns of my ratchet. Popped right out; easy as you please. Occasionally removed from puller to scribe barrel for future installation. Better than sliced bread. Thanks Bullet175 !!

Hey Newbie. I got my AK74 kit in today and pulled out the barrel on it. Popped right out; easy as you please. LOL. I got My kit from SKS man. This is a real nice kit. All matching #s even down to the bayonet. Looks like its never even chambered a round. $200.00 and two days to my door. Sweet.....After my press gets in Ill start trying to press out barrels with it. But for now that little power steering pully puller rocks.

That's what the Pennies were for.
