and the cop ask"got any guns at home",Railbuggy says I got a few.I have 6 handguns and 9 long guns.Cop giving me the evil eye.I'll just take two, thank you,and I was gone.I thought about grabing 15,but they were keyed different.

who will keep the child safe when the home invader has the upper hand because there's a lock on your gun?

(no, I'm not advocating leaving loaded firearms where children can access them... just being a smartass)
I agree friend.I keep my mouse 9,and my 1911 close and ready with one in the tube.My kids know better then to touch my house guns without asking first.:)
If you have children. It is a good idea to for sure to teach them gun safety.
I dont have any rug rats so I have loaded guns all over the house.
But if my buddies bring any kids over I immediately put them in a locked room.
The problem is not your children that have been taught gun safety.
It is the kids they bring in the house that might want to play with the weapons.

Agree with this completely- they should be able to walk by a rack of weapons, and it be no big deal... but completely understand what they're capable of...

but when I've got to secure my go-to-guns, I'd rather have them in a quick-access safe than a cable lock on them. (if it's not a go-to-gun, then a cable lock would work, but I put them in a safe anyway...)
when the Stepkids moved in, I took them out to the country range, plopped a Watermellon down at 25 yards and then blew it to pieces. They had never been exposed to firearms before in that setting.

Handed the kids pieces and said" See how hard that skin is...and see what that did to it? you are much softer. Don't touch them unless you really have to to defend the house"

10 years later the 20 y/o can outshoot me and the 19 y/o doesn't care about guns....but I NEVER had to lock them up after that little demonstration. They knew what they could do and knew not to screw with them unless they asked me first.

Very well said. MY son when he was about 5 told me that I should put a gun that was on the kitchen table away( a partaly assembled kit that looked complete) because his friends that were coming over, might not know not to touch it. I was almost in tears I was so proud of him. Today when ever he is handed a fire arm (almost 10 now) he automaticaly checks to see if it is loaded if he dont know how the action owrks he wont take it untill he is shown its unloaded. I still dont leave loaded guns laying around but Im confident if I did he would not touch it and if he did he would know how to use it safely. I have no problem with trigger locks or safes and dont feel unsafe in my home however I do keep a weapon at the semi ready. If groups want to hand out locks good for them. But IMOO edcuation is the best defense. He knows what a gun will do and has no curiosity to play with them in fact he gets alittle bored with my passion for them.
all two of my kids new about all the firearms in the house how thay work and that if anyone plays with dads guns there will be hell to pay .any time eather one wanted to see my guns all thay had to do was ask .it was how i was brought up. it works i did not mess with my dads gun with out asking and neather has my kids
I paid $399 for a gun lock today but I got a free rifle with it.

Gave you the "evil eye" for 6 handguns and 9 long guns? I've known a couple of cops who had that many at home or more...guess it's only OK for them.

Not a good idea to tell the cops anything about your stuff.
