Chuck-- on everyone I've ever seen, the back of the receiver is the rear trunnion.

if you are building a stamped typ, then the rear trunion should end up flush with the rear of the reciever and that is finished. If the reciever is out past the trunion a tiny bit then file it down flush after it is all riveted.

What I've found-- the hard way-- is cut the rear last and use the fit of the cover to determine the location.
