While test fitting the rivets I recieved from K-var, in my Russiam AKM kit, I find the rivets for the lower holes in the rear block don't come thru enough to get any kind of hold. They come thru less than 1/16". Can I thin the area where the holes are, to get enought length to squeeze? How much rivet should stick through? On all the other rivets, there is almost a 1/4" sticking thru.

My theory has always been to modify the cheapest part.
That way if you F it up, it's cheaper to replace. LOL

If it were me, I would just get some longer rivets.
Just go to the hardware store and pick up some 5/32" rivets, in the length you need.

If the rivets and rear block are countersunk, make sure you dimple the receiver for them. This could give you the extra length of rivet you need.

Thanks Guys.

7.63X39, I agree with your theory, but finding rivets around here is next to impossible, I've looked. Everyone has tinners rivets and copper but no steel, in standard or swell neck. I'll check in the next bigger city about 35 miles from here.

Rino_66, I was trying these rivets in the old reciever part, so it still has the countersinks.

Both of you are right, longer rivets are the way to go. Makes sense not to mess with the trunnion thickness. It's taking Joeken sooooo longgg to ship my reciever, I quess I could mine my own iron and make some rivets. (that includes the time to go to rivet making school) Is my impatients showing thru, I hope not.

1pat's rivets are a bit longer than normal try asking someone to sell you a couple. I would say 3/16 would be a bare shakey min sticking out. just to hold not to give a full head. the entire rivet fattens up to tighten up then the head mushrooms over so it will get shorter before it even starts to mushroom.

Thanks Hotbarrel, but 7.62X39 is getting me hooked up.
I worked on my rcvr today. Got the front trunnion riveted in, drilled the holes for the rear and set the long rivet. Will set the other two when they get here. This build is starting to look like something.
