What's the difference between Romanian "G" and non-"G" AK's?

a "G" on the side of the front sight block, fore grip with a pistol grip, last big kit supply that venders recived.... still an AK. muttman
The "G" rifles were built for the Romanian equivalent of the National guard. The rifles had the "G" on the rear sight block and a black stripe on the stock at the buttplate for indentification. "G" rifles built after 1980 also have a "S" in the serial number after the year of manufacture and do not have the arrow in the triangle arsenal mark. The only functional difference is that "G" rifles had a disconnector made without the "tail" that permits full automatic fire and were semiautomatic fire only.
Most of the AKM rifles issued to the Romanian military had the vertical foregrip.

100% correct. I have received G parts kits with all the FA parts though.
Welcome to the forum 20nickels.
What they said, it's a military grade rifle that's issued as a semi auto for their National Gaurd type units.
Here's more info, scroll down just a bit to the section titled "Patriotic Guards version"

Agree with everything except the part about no arrow in triangle. Early "G" and non-G had it, later "G" and non-G did not.

I have examples of both.
I've seen people advertising non-G kits as something special. I'd think it would be the opposite, with the G kits having less rounds down the tube from not being used in F/A ever. Or maybe they got cleaned more, sure wears out the barrels too.

Your thoughts?

If it never left the government warehouse, the military never clipped the disconnecter.

The majority of "G"s we got never left the warehouse. . .
[486] I think your right, and adding in nalioth comment about a lot of them not leaving the warehouse would make it more so, I've only seen a couple dozen of these kits/rifles and all the bores were in excellent shape. Other then the rough machining on the 80 or 81 & later ones, these were nice kits.
They gave the G kits to the high school little commie kids to protect the homeland against us filthy American Yankee dog pigs.
Every kid had one in his locker at school along with a picture of an American Marine.
We always send our Marines in first so that would be there targets. :)
The "G" kits are a fairly good quality AK. Hell they go bang when yah pull the trigger.
Now that the cold war has ended, they shipped "sold" them all over the world.
The machining on them, as shown by one of our members in a post, is not up too the higher end AKs.
I like my Romy Gs. Hell they go bang when I pull the trigger.

What I said was that "G" rifles MADE AFTER 1980 do not have the arrow in the triangle. I guess I should have added the following: Those made before 1980 have the arrow in the triangle. Some made during 1980 have it, others don't. AFAIK no one has been able to determine the exact date during 1980 that the change was made.
Specific enough for you?

BTW: The pattern for non "G" rifles is much less clear, as some examples made well into the '80s have the arrow, while some made much earlier do not have it and some do not have any arsenal mark at all. Similarly, the pattern of marking the date of manufacture of non "G" rifles varies. Some have the date as a four digit number at the begining of the serial number, while others have it as a two digit number at the end.
Again, AFAIK no one has established why this difference occurs.
i all ways liked the rommys and the G-s. back in the day you could get a nearly and sometimes new g-kit for $59 shipped.

i think the castration of the FA stuff was to conserve ammo though.

ironically there were many semi only AK's and AKMs produced by the soviet union and Warsaw pack nations nobody seems to know much about those -- i have ran into a few while i was in the peace corpse--LOL!
ACMcom,

Sorry, I simply misunderstood your post. We seem to have been in agreement from the start. My bad, friends again? :)
Did the romanian "G" get produced only as a fixed stock rifle? Or did they come as folders as well? Sorry but my knowledge of romanian ak's is not too in depth
The G model only came as a fixed stock as far as I know.
The military used the folders, under and side.
Tks for the replies. So, it is not functionally different. I just wanted to make sure it took the standard sized accessories (beryl rail, stock parts, etc.) and AK reciever. Unlike a Yugo for instance.

The Yugo is the only "odd man out" on the stamped AK food chain.

All others accept the same stuff (with some specific exceptions [like the AMD-65 and it's shorter gas system]).

Found this one out the hard way :cold:
I have a pile of the G's

I purchased a pile of the Romy G's during 2008 while the primary elections were going on. matching serial numbers etc. I thought the Clinton biznitch was going to get the white house! After the Bamster took the whit house, the have gone up in value pretty good.

That's the only good thing he has done for my pocket book so far! Looking back I should have got another 20 or so. Like I should have loaded up a bunch more ford stock when it was at $1.40 / share. It hit $14.00 last week!

I have only finished 3 of the Romy's so far!
Hilary is a bum.. Four posts.
