So is it safe to put a stock set in a dishwasher? I saw the Pat-1 thread a long time ago and I think his turned out ok. Just wondering if this was ok.

haha, i would have to go over to my girlfriends apartment though since the dishwasher at home wouldn't do them (aka, my mom) :nono:

I put my AMD 63 stock and grips in the dishwasher only for the wash cycle. It worked great. Once they were dry, sand and added finish. I was a little leary about letting them go through the dry cycle as I did not want the heat to damage. Maybe I was being overly cautious but... Anyway, I am going to continue with other projects. I've boiled the Cosmo out ot SKS front gas tube handguards before with no ill effects. Dishwasher can't be as bad, right?

Honestly I have not done this but I have heard a lot of other guys that had good results with this method. As scubadvr said I realy think I would avoid the dry cycle or any forced dry method. Give it all the time it needs to dry slow I bet it may take days depending on humidity.

Yes, avoid forced drying. When I clean up new C&R's that I have bought, first I use a caustic like Puprle power. The wood needs to be scrubbed many times and the wood become saturated with water. The upside to this is the dents and ding swell back out and no longer exist. When the wood drys after a week the dents will be gone except for really bad ones. Then I follow up scraping the wood with a razor blade to get the rough edges off and smooth the wood out. This is an old furniture makers trick from before sandpaper. after all the is done take steelwool and polish and apply your choice of finish.

I have got to try this. I am going to fine one of my M44's and see what happens for myself.

I did this on an ancient Bren stock. I used the heated water but cool dry setting. It turned out great. The hot water swelled out the dings and dents. It sweated out all the grease in the stock and got out fifty years of other dirt and gunk.

PS It does swell the wood, and the butt plate did not fit. It took about ten days in the AC before the wood shrunk back to its original size.

Oh yeah, the dishwasher took the smell of the stock, it took a another cycle to clean the stench out.
