I'm building an AK-74 and need the correct magwell dimensions. I have the correct width (from a KVAR demilled barrel stub assembly) dimensions but need the correct length (in thousandths, like 1.459") of the magwell. I've asked this question before but got no replies so I'm hoping someone with a SAR-2 will be able to help me.

Anyone out there?????

I don't have a SAR-2 , but aren't they they same dimension as the 47 lengthwise? I'm also interested in this as I'm using bent metal blanks for my '74 builds.

Will a OOW-74 receiver work for you? You want length wise dimensions from where to where? It's not a perfect rectangle. I have a sar-2 I can measure but the trigger guard is slightly obscuring the rear of the magwell making it difficult to measure. I can fax you a tracing of the oow if you want to pm me with a fax number.

Dirtalert...

Thanks for the info. I have copied the ACE magwell template and inserted the SAR-2 dimensions (well, the dimensions from my demilled barrel/trunnion blank). As it is, the template is for the SAR-1 (7.62x39mm) and it's length measures around 2.750".

TK, I'm getting essentially the same length measurement on the Vulcan / Hesse AK-47 receiver. Now that we are talking about it, I believe one of the issues with using the Hesse receivers on the 74 build was magwell width. The length was never mentioned as a problem. I measure 2.729 on the Hesse that I have. Good Luck on the build.
