Semi Tommy?

Anyone know the value of a semi auto Tommy with 16" finned barrel, and vertical fore grip? Oh and lightly used
I looked on Auto Ordanance's sight and they show SRP but I wanted a real world value.

The semi thompson prices are all over the place depending on who made them and if they have the removable buttstock. When I was looking for a 1927 a couple years ago the low end was in the $700-$750 range for a vg/exc condition one, and average was about $800-$850. I ended up getting a new Khar made one with the removable stock for $1100. Check gunbroker to see what they're going for now.
I paid $900 for my Kahr M1 about 2 years ago.
Auto Ordnance, non-removable stock, I think it's the 1927A1 but not completely sure of model.
I did look on GB but there weren't many being bidded on at the time, I'll have to watch it for a few days.

Thanks
You know you want one!

There's also the question of whether they can use the drums. If they follow the original receiver design they will, and there's one design that won't be able to use drums, only stick mags. May be an issue for resale value right there.

I wish my dad hadn't sold his semi Tommy - it was a joy to shoot!

We don't need no stinking drum mags :)

I had a 1927a1 Deluxe back in 2000.Payed 800.00(used) w/6 USGI stick 30 rd mags.Piece of junk. The rear sight was pop riveted on and came off.The reciever was threaded so I called Kahr and got the correct screws and took care of that problem. The front sight(Cutts Comp.) waas screwed on and would not stay tight.I tried high temp thread locker, needed to be pinned like the Military version.Anyway,I ran 500 rnds thru it and sold it for 950.00.I think Kahr is doing a better job on assembly than Auto Ordanace did in 2000.I loved to shoot it.gunut

Oh don't worry, if we ever move out of IL my thompsons and suomi's are going to get a tax stamp for a sbr.
If you hop the river over to here you'll need an FFL. But I' guess I've beat that horse enough.
I do like having no zoning, codes or permits here. A little taste of freedom.

Yeah that really sucks. Glad i didn't do the dead to any of my stuff already.

What part of the state are you in ? I'm moving to the southwest corner around the Neosho - Joplin area.
I'm near West Plains. Near the middle, but right on the Arkansas border.
Nearest large city is Springfield. Never been there. 150 miles each way.
Sorry to hijack thread Tommy guys!
I've heard that Joplin is very cool place. I like old mining towns.

I had heard that some of the auto ord guns weren't made very well at times. The one I got was made by kahr and was one of the first ones that had the return to the detachable buttstock like the 1921 or 1928. So far I haven't had any issues with it except that I couldn't focus on the folded rear sight so I replaced it with an original 1928 rear sight. The cheapest place I've found for mags is what a country. The military mags will need the mag catch hole lengthened a bit to fit the semi receivers. I posted some pics of a jig to make the process easy somewhere here.
Here's the thread with the magazine jig. http://www.gunco.net/forums/f108/auto-ordnance-thompson-1927-t1bsb-37815/

Moleman & Black Blade it looks just like the one in your pics, vertical fore grip and compensator.

:D

How are those removable stocks set up? Can they be used on any receiver or just certain ones?

Pookie, yes it's set up to take drums, it actually comes with a 50 & two 30 round mags, one surplus that he says fits tight & a new one that came with it from AO.

Yeah really, this is one of those that needs to be short :D

A lot of good info, I'll let you know this weekend if I get it or not
Well whether I like it or not, I got it.
It has 2 30 rnd stick mags, one looks like it came with the rifle from the factory and the other is a surplus that looks rough & fit tight (had to mess with it a little to get it to insert all the way) and a 50 round AI drum.
The only thing I can complain about so far (other then the weight :D ) is the PO neglected it a little, that weird oval shape clip on the right lower that holds the pins in had some lite rust that started to pit the metal. Other then that it just shows some normal handling wear, you know a few scuffs here and there.
I'll get a pic up then.

Anyone got info or a site that shows how to take the lower apart? I'd like to give it a good cleaning.
Congrats! The "factory" mag that came with mine was a refinished USGI mag that some monkey took a die grinder to the mag catch hole to make it fit the 1927. Now start stocking up on 45acp ammo because it goes fast with a thompson. I haven't got mine dirty enough that I thought it needed cleaning yet. I'd probably take the wood off and spray it out with brake cleaner.

That's what I might end up doing if I don't find any good info, I already had all the wood off it to make sure there wasn't any rust hiding under it and that's also part of the reason I wanted to take the lower apart, to make sure there wasn't any hiding in there too. Altough if there was, it would most likely take a life time to eat through that thick steel :D
