They make awesome woods guns for about as far out as I'd shoot a deer with open/peep sights, but to me seem awkward if you put a scope on them. Because of that I like peep rear sights. My favorite one of mine is my 444 Marlin.

I've got 4 Marlins I wouldn't part with for love nor money. A real old model 39, 22lr &22mag, a 336 30-30 of course, I bought that in used in1964, and a 44 mag Octagon barrel one I bought way back too, I gather the 44mag was a special edition one they made only 702 of I think it was? Something like that,,,,

I don't think I've ever seen a Marlin .22 Mag lever action. I do have a M39 Mountie and a M1894 .44 Mag. My only Marlin .22 Mag is a bolt action 883.

My Marlin 39 does short, long and long rifle IIRC. Only ever shot LR out of it. Was the 22lr/mag custom or factory and how do the 22lr cases look after being fired in the large dia mag chamber?

For a 100yd woods gun they're hard to beat. We're on the lookout for a new Ruger/Marlin 1895 45/70 ss. Want to check one out in person before buying it because if I don't love it I'll get an older marlin cowboy 45/70.
