Hello, I?m the new guy on the block, Just found this site today (3-18-04) and had to put my two cents in,
The video your talking about is from surplusrifle.com. And he does slam them around some, the man?s no genius but you can get info on guns you may not know how to dissemble yourself by watching. I found that he sells a CD that has all his films and a bunch of other good info on it. Basically it?s the whole site on disk. Check his CD & book combo?s before you buy just the CD. This is how I learned to dissemble an M1-Garrand, I don?t have one, but now I know how. I called myself ?Oldgunner? because, #1. I?m now 52 and #2. I?ve been shooting guns from the age of five or so. My love?s are old bolt-action military rifles (7) but also have an AR-15 a few SKS?s and I?m thinking about putting together an AK-47 just for the fun of it. Hope I can add a little now and then that?s useful to someone.

"Wipe Out" Any good?

Hello Custer,
It?s just that I feel old, you know when you remember people complaining about that ?Elvis guy? on TV last night and how they could only show him from his middle on up, your starting to get up there in years. And the weather up here in North central Illinois is not good for my Arthritis and Carpal tunnel making winter almost impossible to get out and shoot, I?m getting into using scopes and pistol-grip stocks for comfort. I find I can?t wrap my hand around those rifle stocks any more, something like an AR-15 or thumbhole stock is best. I love my old Mauser?s and Nagant?s, I just don?t expect to hit much with the way I?ve got to hold them now. I now spend a lot of time collecting gun info on building, cleaning and basic gunsmithing, I find I?m getting more into the mechanics of the hobby.
OK now for the question.
I would like to know if anyone out there has used ?Wipe Out? to clean their guns and how well it worked, It?s foam you shoot into the barrel. It expands to fill the barrel and after you let it sit for 15 minutes or so you just wipe it out with a patch. Does it work?

Grease or Moly?

Oldgunner back again,
All that grease seems like it would be a mess; I treat all my barrels with a Moly bore treatment every time I finish cleaning the gun. It gets into the metal and makes cleaning easier the next time. Just run a dry patch through to remove the excess before shooting, I?ve been told you?ll get a little more velocity from the round when you Moly treat. And a lot of long-range target shooters Moly coat (dry film) their bullets for that little extra speed. Another great thing is to give a shot of Kroil or Silikroil into the bore before you leave the range; they both will get under all the crud and loosen it by the time you get home. I?ve been surprised how good this stuff is, once you use Kroil you?ll never use WD-40 again. As far as Wipe Out, I put the address below if anyone wants to look at it. And you all should take a look at KG Coatings, they make ?Gun Kote? gun finish and you can get itfrom their site. a lot cheaper than at Brownells. KG has a ton of good things for us gunners. Get together with another gunner friend a buy a gallon of Kroil, you?ll both love the stuff. They also have a deal that if you buy a gallon you get a sample can (full size) of any of their spray-on products for something like $31.00 with the shipping. I tried the Moly Film and found it?s as good as Midway?s Moly Film.
