SKS headspace...

bought a yugo sks at gunshow a couple of weeks ago, checked head space today before i tried too shoot it. Removed firing pin and extractor, when i checked with GO and NO-GO gauge the bolt will NOT close on either. What now ? :scared:

Your bigger problem would be if the bolt closed on the no-go guage. Take it to the range and test fire. It will loosen up with use.

Exactly--

I understand the concept but not the practicality behind the existence of the go gauge. If the round chambers and the bolt closes in battery, shoot it.

The SKS is one of the strongest made actions the way the bolt locks into the receiver.

If it closes with a round in the chamber you are good to go. The only thing an SKS is really dangerous about is slam firing due to dirty firing pins. Even that is easy to deal with when it happens.
like scubadvcr said, It is much better to be too tight on headspace than too loose. Like I told my buddy before we checked the headspace on the FAL we built.

"Dude, you aint shootin this yet!! We need to make sure its a RIFLE and not a Grenade!!!!!"


Turned out headspace was perfect, sweeet!!!!!! :headspin:
