I went to another sight today and noticed they changed their look. it looks somehow familiar, very familiar. for some reason they look like us now. what happened.
IT SEEMS CLEAR THAT GUNCO IS LEADING THE WAY !! :thumbup1:
I was shocked to think they would have done anything that even resembled us at all . I could go on but it realy dose not matter any how. I just thought I would mention it.

But seriously anyone can copy how this place looks but without the 1st class people that make up this place it is just an empty wrapper.

That's interesting. I wasn't even aware of this site before the other one changed. The two do look much alike, and I wondered why they made the changes they did. I particularly disliked what they did with their advertising. I liked the changing half-banner ads. Now, they simply have three icons in the upper right hand corner of the page. They don't tell you about sales and specials, as did the half banner ads.

The last time I visted the other site, the smilies page did not work, and members could not edit their messages, nor post surveys without being charged. I'm not against a subscription service, though. Rush Limbaugh and O'Reily have a subscription side to their pages, and other Gun Boards, such as AR-15.com, charge for certain features. I won't begrudge the owners of this site profit for their investment of time and money.

Just my 2 bits.

Well, it's not really a bad thing that Gunsnet has the same look and feel. They upgraded the software to a newer and better version. A very smart thing to do as the version they started out with was old. Just like upgrading from 98 to XP it's a good thing.

They just have the same stuff that many message boards have.

More than software.

That's true, Jeff, but I don't think software makes a Discussion Board. Frankly, I enjoyed their old software. It worked well and was easy to use. However, last time I was there, the smiley page wasn't accessible, even with the new software. It would not surprise me if that Board loses some traffic from their new for-pay restrictions. Editing should not require payment.

I don't know if they have their spell checker, yet. It sounds like a good notion, but anyone familiar with that Board might wonder whether anyone cares whether words such as "whore," "moron," "*******," "mother******," and "****head" are spelled correctly. Oh, I forgot "****." (Censorship was my own, not by GunCo or the software filter).

Most members already have a spell checker in their word processor, so it may be a feature which really has no impact, except to increase costs to their ownership.

I think the other site has good rules. In my opinion, that Board would be better off if the following rules were enforced:

Rule Number 4: No pissing matches or flame fest discussions are allowed on The Guns Network LLC. The members of this site can keep our moderating to a minimum by exercising a little discretion, some common sense and self- control.

Rule Number 5: Pure trolling ~ Either to piss someone off or simply for your personal enjoyment. If you're here to cause trouble, it will be a very short stay...

Those rules are posted throughout the other Board, but frankly my experience was they were inadequately, if not rarely enforced, especially on their AK side. There was considerable consternation about repeated violations of the rules by a Moderator and Administrator whose exchange of insults, curses, and dirty words obviously made a shamble of the Board's rules. I hope we never see that here.

This Board has begun well, with intelligent and interesting discussions. I think that willdraw quality members and make it grow into very popular site - much more than a spell checker, or smiley faces. Good luck!

I don't really care about flamefest and the like as long as there are no threats although I really don't even care about that but understand why a board would prohibit them.
Verbally mixing it up is ok with me.

That being said, my only real objection is the behavior of one moderator, Vampire. I would not have a problem if he was simply a member but the fact that he represents the board and acts the way he does is inexcusable.
