Used to own both of them, prefered the 1903A3 because of the aperture sight mounted on the rear bridge:

I’ve seen references to an M1903A1 rifle. I’ve looked around at a bunch of gun shows, and I have not found a rifle marked “M1903A1.” How does that variant differ from a standard M1903 rifle?

I prefer the 1903A3 also Tommo! Had a minty Remington at one point that was a treat to shoot.

Was never a fan of any straight grip stock .

The Original stock was straight supposedly for better control when fighting with the bayonet. I suppose bayonet fighting of wars past didn't seem to be as much of a concern as the designers of the 1903 thought it would be.
