Thanks, but if I can't find a copy you are going to have to scan it and post the article.
I have some friends who shoot "cowboy action". They told me about "Trail Boss" a couple years ago and I started trying it in different calibers. It's hard to overload and burns pretty clean. I really like it in .38 and .44 special and plan to try it in a few rifles soon. (it was a good article - I read it too)
I can try to scan or at least copy the loading data , I've been looking for Subsonic data for 308 and 762X39 started working up a load using 700X but this trail boss looks better, now I need to get a can... B2B
Curious to see whose bullets you/they are using for the x39.
I was using the Seirra match King 174 Gr .311 dia bullets and working up loads using 700X. I also tested a 170 grain Flat point hard Cast lead bullet, I shot them over the cronograph to try to get about 1100 fps out of a Yougo SKS with the gas piston removed.. ie. straight pull bolt gun.. I got close to my goal but need to reduce the loads down to about 7 grain. I believe it will just about get that Velocity out of the 39... In subsonic load you work the powder change down to your goal.. The loads would be a great for someone who has a AR upper chambered in 762X39 and has a can for it.. B2B
Ive tried every load I can think of with 4759, Unique, and Red dot powders. 174 and 220 grain bullets. No luck getting it to cycle. Unique is the worst in my experience. Get close to cycling the action and it detonates something fierce.
There are a few things you'll have to be careful with subsonic loading, loading too close to the edge of the subsonic velocity and you can risk lodging a bullet in your barrel... The other one is detonation, usually a problem with a large cases and a small powder charge. Where the primers lights the whole powder charge at once instead of a burning rate it cause a high pressure spike.. fast burning powder are much better than the slow burning powders..
loading density need to be watched.. in the 762X39 it is not as big a deal as it is in like a 308 or 3006 case... because the case is a small one.. As far as cycling the action if you have a suppressor where legal the back pressure produced by the can will help cycle the action where a unsuppressed rifle will not cycle...The subsonic loading data is closely guarded by those who have the data..because it's hard to do..and can be risky in development.. Trailboss looks to be an answer to a few problems..with loading SS data... B2B

Try blue dot, it is slower than red dot and unique, but not as slow as 4759, maybe it's a happy medium between the 2 extremes of the powders you listed.
Powder Burn Rates
